A little over a year ago we found out that Academy Award winners Joel Coen and Ethan Coen were making a western anthology for Netflix titled The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. At the time, I misread the project as an anthology series when in fact it was described as a western anthology “project,” not a series. And now we know that it will actually be a six-part western anthology film. Whether those six parts will in total equal the length of one feature film or if each part will be longer than that remains to be seen. Either way, I’m damn excited about it.
Netflix has now released an official trailer for The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, which is presented in the unique style of the Coen brothers. Each chapter tells a story about the American Old West, with Scruggs (played by Tim Blake Nelson) at the center of it all.
Continue below to check out the trailer.
The cast for the anthology also includes James Franco, Brendan Gleeson, Zoe Kazan, Liam Neeson, and Tom Waits.
The film is both written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs will be released on Netflix on November 16th, with a release in select theaters coming on the same day.
