‘Clueless’ Remake In The Works; Yeah, We Don’t Understand Why Either

Clueless

There are some films that are just perfect as they are. There’s no need to bother with a reboot. But in this day and age of films, there is nothing that is sacred. So it comes as no surprise that a Clueless remake is in the works.

But before we go and write off the reboot completely, let us look at who will be tasked with rebooting it. Reports say Girls Trip writer Tracy Oliver is producing and GLOW writer Marquita Robinson writing the script. Those are some quality comedies right there. More on the report below.

Deadline says that the reboot will be coming to us from Paramount. While it’s too early to reveal any details, it’s going to be obvious that the reboot will have a more modern take and feature things like social media, influencers, and everything else in between. But for those who weren’t around during the ’90s or are far too young, here’s the plot synopsis for the original and you can find a trailer below:

Shallow, rich and socially successful Cher (Alicia Silverstone) is at the top of her Beverly Hills high school’s pecking scale. Seeing herself as a matchmaker, Cher first coaxes two teachers into dating each other. Emboldened by her success, she decides to give hopelessly klutzy new student Tai (Brittany Murphy) a makeover. When Tai becomes more popular than she is, Cher realizes that her disapproving ex-stepbrother (Paul Rudd) was right about how misguided she was — and falls for him.

While some aspects of the first Clueless are a bit dated, that status and popularity are still apart of today’s society, other parts of it like slang are pretty much outdated. Plus the film is a loose adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma. So there are plenty of ways to make it modern and still call it Clueless.

Released in 1995, Clueless‘s popularity has developed a huge cult following. It spawned a TV spinoff and musical, the latter of which will make its debut later this November. The former lasted a respectable three seasons, and brought a majority of the film cast back to reprise their respective roles. There were even a few crossovers with sister shows like Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Moesha – writing this just makes me feel old now.

It will be interesting to see how well today’s audiences will respond to the reboot. Now it is just a matter of finding a director and its cast. Of course, we will keep you updated as soon as more developments come in.
