‘Halloween’ Sequel Hires ‘Firestarter’ Scribe To Pen Script

As far as reboot-sequel hybrids go, David Gordon Green‘s Halloween is one of the best. The 2018 film paid respect to its 1978 predecessor by relying on familiar themes and tones original fans would recognize while also introducing its iconic horror figure, Michael Myers, to a new and much younger audience. Raking in $253.7 million at the box office last year, there was no doubt that a sequel was in order. Now that one has been confirmed, the creative pieces are being put together.

New reports confirm that Firestarter writer Scott Teems has been hired to pen the script for the upcoming Halloween sequel. More on the report below.

Collider was the very first to break the news of Teems’ hiring. They add that Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak or “three generations of Strodes” are all expected to return. While David Gordon Green and Danny McBride will probably retain their executive producer titles, it is unclear if Green will return to direct. Creator John Carpenter will also retain his executive producer title.

It’s no surprise that Universal and Blumhouse would have to follow up with a sequel given its success. Not only that, but there is no way that the Strodes were able to kill Michael Myers — it’s something that cannot be done. So it should be fun to see their reaction to the return of the stone-cold killer.

But without a director, it seems like production for the Halloween reboot sequel won’t be starting any time soon. But getting a writer is a great way to start. And Teems is a very reliable person, apparently, as he has been one of Blumhouse’s go-to guys. Not only that, Teems has also some directing credits to his name, having directed a handful of shorts, That Evening Sun, and a documentary titled Holbrook/Twain: An American Odyssey. He also directed two episodes of SyFy’s Rectify. So there is a chance for him to be offered to direct. But we will just have to wait and see.

In addition to the directing, he has also written and produced for shows like Rectify and Narcos: Mexico.
