J.J. Abrams Reveals New Photo As ‘Star Wars Episode IX’ Completes Principal Photography

“It feels impossible, but today wrapped photography on Episode IX. There is no adequate way to thank this truly magical crew and cast. I’m forever indebted to you all,” Star Wars Episode IX director JJ Abrams tweeted on February 15 to mark the completion of principal photography. With it, he posted a photo from the set.

Abrams took his official Twitter account to commemorate the occasion and posted an image of stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Issac embracing each other for their final Star Wars pic. It’s been a long journey for the three, who were all in The Force Awakens, but never together until the final scene in The Last Jedi. Now we are just waiting for Disney to announce the full title for Episode IX.

There isn’t much else to the image than that. Of course, there are some crew members who did manage to make it into the background, and the three stars look like they are wearing the same clothes that they wore in The Force Awakens. But if you are the type of person who will look at every pixel expecting to find an answer, good luck. Maybe there is something that is literally in the sand that tells us what the title is or maybe how the Skywalker saga comes to an end.

Joking aside, we know that in addition to Boyega, Isaac, and Ridley, the final film in the trilogy will also see the return of Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Lupita Nyong’o, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. Keri Russell, Matt Smith, Richard E. Grant, Dominic Monaghan, and Naomi Ackie will also appear in the upcoming film as new characters. Cast from the original trilogy including Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams are also expected to reprise their respective roles.

Now that filming has wrapped, the long road of post-production work, which includes editing and reshoots are ahead, with the additional attendance of fan panels at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago and the D23 Expo in Anaheim later this year. Of course, with all of that, we are bound to find out what the title of the film is.

Though the title has yet to be revealed, we do know that Star Wars Episode IX will hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
