The Mandalorian Star Wars

There has never been live-action Star Wars television series. But come November, that will all change when The Mandalorian will debut along with a number of other original shows on Disney+, Disney’s exclusive streaming service. This will be one of Disney’s flagship shows that can only be seen on Disney+, and the studio hopes to use all of that anticipation and excitement to draw subscribers to their service.

Star Wars fans got a first look at The Mandalorian earlier this year when showrunner and executive producer Jon Favreau presented some footage and shared some info about the show. Now he’s back, with the debut of the teaser trailer; plus, and he brought along some of the cast to the D23 Expo today to show off what they can expect to see.

Watch the teaser trailer here below.

Inspired by some of the best Westerns and Samurai films of the past, The Mandalorian will see the titular bounty hunter (Pablo Pascal), of questionable morals, traveling to the outer reaches of space away from the New Republic. Hired by a mysterious person, bounty hunter searches for a product that’s worth a lot to a lot of people. And he’ll come across some faces that Star Wars fans may recognize, like IG-88 (Taika Waititi), who has quite the gunslinging skills.

It takes place during a time after the revolution and when the Empire has fallen. As Favreau puts it, chaos reigns. There is no guiding leadership nor is there anyone to police outlaws.

Based on what we know so far, the show will require no prior knowledge of any of the previous or current Star War films. Though there will be some Easter eggs, it’s not going to have those who may not be familiar with Star Wars asking questions.

Episodes will be directed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom star Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, Deborah Chow and Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels creator Dave Filoni will direct episodes of the first season, which is said to run at least eight episodes. It has been said that a prerequisite to directing an episode was that you had to be a Star Wars fan.

In addition to Pascal and Waititi, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, and Carl Weathers also star.

The Mandalorian will debut on Disney+ on November 12, 2019.
