Dungeons & Dragons: Essentials Kit
D&D Accessory
Boxed Set
Wizards Of The Coast
Release Date: June 24, 2019 (Target exclusive release) September 3, 2019 (worldwide release)

So, truthfully, this is less of a review and more of an alert. The Dungeons & Dragons Essentials Kit is effectively what it says it is, the essentials to play the game. Is it everything you will ever need? Probably not for most of us. But for the casual player, perhaps. Wizards Of The Coast seems to be doing everything they can to make the world’s greatest roleplaying game accessible to everyone. And for a game that has always been diverse, this inclusiveness is heartwarming.

Inside this cool cardboard box is a little bit of everything for the budding new player. Included in this are half a dozen character sheets, a decent sized hex map of the Sword Coast, and even reference cards that detail people, items, and spells. Additionally, there is a DM screen, a full set of eleven dice (including 4d6 and 2d20), a starter rule book, and a fun adventure called Dragon of Icespire Peak to round it all out. In essence, the essentials for game play.

The story seems fantastic and the module is short, but contains everything you need from background to encounters, allowing even a fledgling dungeon master to run a successful game. The basics are available for character building though a lot of the nuances are unavailable here. Again it is an Essential Kit, not an all-encompassing source book. I have reviewed a plethora of those, if you feel the need to explore the archives. This is entertainment for the sake of entertainment, all in one nifty boxed set.

So whether there are just a couple of you or up to a half dozen, this spectacular kit holds enough magic for you all. I cannot lie, I did spend some time rolling the dice to see how they fared. Check out the photos below, I may add them into my personal collection based on these initial rolls. Of course, not everything is a crit, fumbles happen sometimes. I hope you find it as appealing as I did. It is a great way to bring in new players in one affordable purchase, it retails at $24.99, but Amazon has it for $15.96 with Prime delivery as of this posting.
