One of the best reviewed films of 2019 is now on AMC’s horror streaming service Shudder, as Tigers Are Not Afraid from writer/director Issa Lopez debuts. Premiering today, Thursday September 12, 2019, Tigers Are Not Afraid is an amazing mix of real world horror and the supernatural; a film of its kind not seen since Guillermo del Toro’s mesmerizing 2006 classic Pan’s Labyrinth. The film is available for Shudder subscribers in both the U.S., Canada, UK, and Ireland.

Set in the chaos of a Mexico ravaged by the drug war, Tigers Are Not Afraid tells the story of a group of hard-nosed children forced to live together and support each other while fleeing both the cartels and the ghosts of their lost families. Featuring some of the best child performances I have ever seen, led by Juan Ramon Lopez (El Shine) and Paola Lara (Estrella), the young kids navigate rooftops, pickpocket, and hustle their way to survival all while a dark cloud hovers over them.

I recently had the opportunity to see the film in theaters and I cannot wait to see it again. Rarely do you find a movie this full of genuine horror with authentic young stars who manage to balance fear and hope. I was blown away. If you don’t believe me, it also currently stands at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and the likes of horror icons Stephen King and Guillermo del Toro both praised Lopez’s film. The Shape of Water director has also pledged to produce Issa Lopez’s next film, which is a haunted western. The film has won over 50 awards across the globe at various festivals as well as wins for Best Picture and Best Director at the Mexican equivalent of the Golden Globes.

Maybe the best overall horror film and one of the top reviewed films overall this year, Tigers Are Not Afraid is a masterpiece well your time and investment.
