These images summon us to enter the Disney theme parks, prompting us to come up with fantastical ideas of what they hold in store. The poster art found at the entrances of Disney’s Magic Kingdom-style parks, as well as at Disney’s many other theme parks and destinations, are sometimes as fascinating to visually digest as the attractions are to experience. I know I felt that way as a child, always attracted to the visual majesty of such simple teasers. Apparently many others felt that way, too. As Disney Legend and renowned Imagineer Tony Baxter writes, that artwork remained in his mind in anticipation of entering Disneyland.

The 2012 book Poster Art of the Disney Parks possesses glossy, gorgeous visuals of tons of attractions (up to the release of the title), as well as some helpful commentary on their development and symbolism.

Life Of Agony bassist Alan Robert already made the jump to comic book creator with the 2010 miniseries Wire Hangers, and has since gone on write and illustrate other titles, such as Killogy, the IDW miniseries he created that tells the story of three murderers, one of whom has the likeness of Marky Ramone. Now, the Brooklyn native has made another successful leap in his career — to adult coloring books with The Beauty of Horror: A GOREgeous Coloring Book.

Chances are, the average adult doesn’t think they have the time for coloring, or perhaps they believe it’s something you leave behind with childhood. But it’s known nowadays that coloring is actually quite therapeutic, and if you don’t believe me, just grab a crayon, pencil, or marker, and start coloring something in, and within minutes, you’ll experience the smoothing effects.

Anyone who has watched some Food Network in their day has likely seen some kind of competition in which a variety of amazing cake creations are made. Zoe’s Fancy Cakes is someone who would likely do well in competitions such as those.

For this Halloween season, the cake maker’s YouTube channel has been sharing some fitting tutorial videos. One of the videos shows you how to make a cake version of the Bride from Tim Burton‘s stop-motion feature Corpse Bride. Though I’m going to go ahead and assume most mortal beings such as you and I would not fare well in trying to pull the cake off, as it is a truly impressive piece of work.

Star Wars Propaganda

At first glance, Star Wars Propaganda looks like exactly what you’d expect it to be — an oversized art book with full-color graphics based on the Star Wars universe. But if you look more carefully, you’ll notice that not only is the artwork unlike what you’d usually see in Star Wars canon, but there’s also a very detailed history behind it all.

This slipcased hardcover book from Harper Design, subtitled A History of Persuasive Art in the Galaxy, weaves a narrative of little-known Star Wars history that begins with the Republic and moves on to the Clone Wars as seen in the events of the Prequel films, until the Galactic Empire takes over, prompting the Rebellion and the creation of the Alliance we know so well from the original trilogy. The book ends with a section on the New Republic, the First Order, and the Resistance, which were all introduced in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Many people, myself included, were deeply scarred by author Alvin Schwartz‘s horror book series Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, especially with artist Stephen Gammell‘s original illustrations. Recently a movie adaptation of the books has been in development, and earlier this year it was announced that Guillermo del Toro was now working on it with the possibility of even directing it himself.

It will likely be a bit before get a better idea of where the movie is going. So for now, here’s a video to hold you over. The video is of an artist creating a 3D chalk re-creation of one of Gammell’s drawings. It’s a quick video for sure, but still cool to see.
