The Shining Halloween Horror Nights

Summer might be just rolling in, but for many of us it’s just the final stretch of time to pass before fall and the Halloween season returns to us once again.

While we wait, dreaming of falling leaves and scary flicks on a chilly night, Universal has revealed that Stanley Kubrick’s horror classic The Shining will be a part of their Halloween Horror Nights festivities this year.

More on the news and a brief announcement video can be found below.

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride

Anyone who has watched some Food Network in their day has likely seen some kind of competition in which a variety of amazing cake creations are made. Zoe’s Fancy Cakes is someone who would likely do well in competitions such as those.

For this Halloween season, the cake maker’s YouTube channel has been sharing some fitting tutorial videos. One of the videos shows you how to make a cake version of the Bride from Tim Burton‘s stop-motion feature Corpse Bride. Though I’m going to go ahead and assume most mortal beings such as you and I would not fare well in trying to pull the cake off, as it is a truly impressive piece of work.

Bruce Campbell In Army Of Darkness halloween

No genre produces more sequels than horror. And let’s face it, most of these horror sequels are cheaply made, easily produced, and generally terrible. It has become customary in the last thirty years that whenever horror hits a home run, to rush to replicate the process as many times as possible. In the 80s, slashers were the thing, and by decade’s end there were eight Friday the 13th films, five for the A Nightmare on Elm Street series, and five for the Halloween franchise. In recent years, the Saw and Paranormal Activity franchises have spit out a sequel a year. Because of this, it is genuinely surprising when a horror sequel comes along that receives both critical and fan praise. After seeing one of those shockingly great horror sequels last week with Ouija: Origin of Evil, I’ve dug up the Top 10 Horror Movie Sequels, right in time for Halloween.

Check out the list below.

Aladdin characters

The YouTube channel PrankvsPrank has posted a new video that’s not so much a prank as it is just an awesome costume in action this Halloween season. The video shows a man dressed as the title character from the classic Disney animated movie Aladdin, and better yet, he’s making his way around New York City on his very own magic carpet much to the delight of those who see it.

You can check out the video as well as a second making of video below.

Star Trek Horror

By Kevin David Anderson

As a fan and writer of horror, I tend to look for and find the horror in everything. From romantic comedies to presidential debates, I can somehow see the terror, the dread, and the worse case scenario in all stories, real or imagined. But when it comes to my favorite science fiction franchise, Star Trek, the search for horror, both dark and scary, is never difficult. Not the dystopian horror of 1984 or The Hunger Games, but good old fashion B-movie creature feature Halloween horror; vampires, zombies, shape shifters, body snatchers, and even serial killers can all be found in Star Trek.

So when you go to select some Halloween entertainment on this Hallows’ Eve, forget Freddy. That nightmare is over. Jason and Michael, give them a rest this year. This Halloween after the trick or treating is done, and the orange glow of jack-o-lanterns have been extinguished, settle in on the couch, dim the lights, and watch Star Trek.

The following list of episodes is a mix of some of my personal favorites, and those suggested by followers of the Night of the Living Trekkies Facebook page.

The horror begins with…
