Bohemian Rhapsody

Studio: 20th Century Fox
Rated PG-13 | 134 Minutes

Bohemian Rhapsody buzzes with electricity from the moment Freddie Mercury and the rest of Queen step foot on stage. Watching these musical sequences is like witnessing a legendary act that deserves to be seen live. And although the film did have its production problems, it holds together well thanks to Rami Malek’s performance as the iconic Freddie Mercury.

Still, no film is without its faults. While the supporting cast is great as they are doing the best with what they are given, the minor issues are not nearly enough to overshadow Malek, who is the beating heart of this film, and the musical performances that will surely have you stomp your foot and clap repeatedly. Check out my review of Bohemian Rhapsody below.

Bohemian Rhapsody trailer

20th Century Fox has released the final trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody starring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen. The biopic film, which hits theaters next week, has already been screened for various critics.

And while many have praised Malek’s performance, they also agree that the film suffers from far too by-the-numbers storytelling. However, if none of the behind-the-scenes drama that nearly all bands suffer interests you, then the compilations of songs used with the addition of creating the title song and the Live-Aid final is worth watching. Check out the latest trailer below.

The Kid Who Would Be King

The latest trend is to make an origins story dark and gritty. Those family friendly films seems too old-fashioned. But if you are tired of the dark and gritty and are looking for something of a lighter fare, then The Kid Who Would Be King could be just the film you are looking for.

It sees Alex (Ashbourne Serkis), a kid who thinks he is a nobody, stumbling upon the legendary Excalibur. He is then pulled into a world where he must unite with a band of knights and work together with Merlin (Patrick Stewart) to defeat Morgana (Rebecca Ferguson). Check out the trailer for the film below along with a poster.

New Mutants

The one X-Men film that seems to have fallen by the wayside is The New Mutants, a spinoff that centers on a different group of mutants who are forced to come to grips with their mutant powers while being held in a secret government facility. The film was supposed to hit theaters earlier this year before being pushed back to February 2019 and then to August 2019. The reasons for those new dates was to give director Josh Boone some extra time for reshoots. However, to push back the film almost two years after the film was originally scheduled to be released seems strange. And to say that the reason for that push was to get some reshoots in seems even odder.

But that appears to be the case. The reshoots are pushing the film’s release date to August of next year. But not because the reshoots are happening now. It’s because the reshoots haven’t happened yet. More on the report below.

Dark Phoenix Trailer Header

Dark Phoenix, the latest installment in the X-Men film franchise, was supposed to be released in November. But the film needed some additional photography and reshoots, and as a result, it pushed the release date to February of next year. Whether or not this was a sign of trouble is unknown. But at least we get to finally see what has become of Simon Kinberg‘s directorial debut.

Fox has dropped the first trailer for Dark Phoenix, which is based on the story arc of the same name which sees Jean Grey, one of the most powerful members of the X-Men, fuse with a cosmic entity who has the power to destroy the entire galaxy. Check out the trailer and a new poster below.

Marvel X-Men and Avengers crossover

Marvel Comics may share one universe, but when it comes to films, that’s a different story.

Sony has their Spider-Man-Less universe, Disney has the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and FOX has X-Men and Fantastic Four. But since Disney acquired Fox earlier this year, for $71 billion, many are hoping things are going to change. And it looks like that may be happening. Just how soon remains to be a question.

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently spoke about what the merger could do for their Marvel properties. But one thing is for sure, Iger believes that there should not be “two Marvels.” Check out the story here below.
