Marvel's Ant-Man

The ingenious part of Marvel’s Shared Universe is that the marketing team can have fun and find creative ways to market each film, whether it involves the solo ones or the ensemble ones. Their latest effort turns its attention to the upcoming Ant-Man.

But for one of the more obscure heroes of the MCU, how would the marketing team make sure that audiences know that Ant-Man exists in it. Well one way is having him do some tiny cameos on the Avengers’ signature weaponry. Check out some of the cool posters below.

Joss Whedon With Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner On The Set Of Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man has seen its fair share of problems. Edgar Wright dropped out at the last minute because of a major script overhaul; the studio eventually settled on Peyton Reed to replace him as director; Adam McKay and star Paul Rudd did rewrites to Wright’s script. No one will really know what Wright’s version of the movie would have looked like had he stayed on to direct, and in fact there are only a few people who have seen the actual script.

Joss Whedon is one of those people. The Avengers: Age of Ultron director recently spoke about Ant-Man, and praised Wright’s script calling it one of the best that Marvel has ever had. Hit the jump for more.

Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in Marvel Studio's Ant-Man

Marvel Studios has released the first full theatrical trailer for their latest solo comic book adventure, Ant-Man. You can check it out here below.

The teaser trailer, released in January, leaned heavily on setting up the story basics. The latest delivers on the action and visual effects fronts and then some, with Paul Rudd looking mighty badass as the titular incredible shrinking superhero as he encounters insects of an unusual size and takes on Corey Stoll‘s villainous Darren Cross when the latter suits up as Yellowjacket. We also get a sense of the on-screen relationship between Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and the stakes involved in their recruiting thief Scott Lang (Rudd) for their battle against Cross.

Adam McKay Image

During the events of the Edgar Wright and Marvel’s Ant-Man fallout, Marvel looked to Anchorman writer and director Adam McKay to help revise the script. The studio was seriously considering letting McKay direct the film as well, but he couldn’t commit, and job eventually went to Peyton Reed. However, during that time, Marvel was impressed with McKay’s work on the script, and soon enough rumors started to emerge that he could be up for a future project.

Now that rumor has popped up again. A lot of things have changed since McKay has finished writing the script. Marvel has announced a number new titles and have the rights to use Spider-Man in their films. So there are a few possibilities as to what he could be directing. Hit the jump to see what kinds of options McKay has.

Adam McKay Image

Adam McKay isn’t one to shy away from comedies that address current events. The Other Guys centered on Ponzi schemes and made an effort to address those issues in the end credits. So now after writing and directing Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and writing the script for Ant-Man based on Edgar Wright’s story, McKay is setting his sights on the housing and credit bubble of the 2000s that eventually led to the financial crisis in 2007-2010. The film will be called The Big Short.

Based on Michael Lewis‘s (Moneyball) The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine, the film has already cast Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, and Christian Bale. According to reports, this is somewhat of a passion project for Pitt, who has been avidly pursuing to get it into production. Hit the jump for more.

Adam McKay Considering Directing A Marvel Movie

Adam McKay Image

Edgar Wright dropping out of Ant-Man wasn’t the best thing to happen to the film, but there was some good that came out of it. Adam McKay was brought in to polish the script, and even film star Paul Rudd had a hand in some of the rewrites. While too many writers working on one script could muck up the story, McKay and Rudd know each other well enough not to step on each others’ toes.

And now that McKay has had a taste of what it has been like to work at Marvel — he was even one of the frontrunners to direct Ant-Man — he is thinking directing something else for them.

Did Edgar Wright Leave ‘Ant-Man’ Because Of Product Placement?

Edgar Wright

Ant-Man has been a hot topic on the site as of late. More so than Dr. Strange finding a director or even Marvel’s shortlist of possible actors to play the character. With so much negative press fueling the Ant-Man press machine, one would have hoped that settling on Peyton Reed as director with Adam McKay doing the rewrites would have cleared the air. But this latest update just adds more fuel to the fire.

One of the reasons why original director Edgar Wright left in the first place was because he did not like how Marvel’s in-house writers homogenized his script. After his departure, Marvel was left scrambling to find a replacement in hopes of meeting the scheduled start date. From there we all know the story. But according to a new rumor, product placement was another reason why Wright had an ugly divorce with the studio. Hit the jump for more.

Peyton Reed Will Direct Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’, Adam McKay To Rewrite Script

Ant-Man Image Header

Marvel Studios has officially announced that Peyton Reed will replaced Edgar Wright as the director of their Phase Three kick-off superhero feature Ant-Man. Adam McKay, the director of the Anchorman movies and Step Brothers, is also coming aboard to rewrite the screenplay previously in the hands of Wright and Joe Cornish.

Reed’s past credits as a director include Bring It On, Down With Love, The Break-Up, and Yes Man. He’s accustomed to making entertaining comedies for major studios that are both visually and verbally inventive, so hopefully he will prove to be a worthy successor to the departing Wright. His hiring brings to an end a brief but exhaustive search for a viable replacement director that has sucked in and spit out names such as Ruben Fleischer, David Wain, Rawson Michael Thurber, Michael Dowse, and Nicholas Stoller. McKay himself was also mentioned as a possible pinch-hitter for Wright but bowed out close to signing a deal due to other directorial commitments.
