SDCC 2016 Archer Panel

Archer is a glorious politically incorrect animated series on the FX network. If you knew that already, then you probably watch and love the show. Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) is a spy who works for his overbearing mother Mallory (Jessica Walter) and is joined by a cast a zany characters, most of which he is trying to sleep with. The show completed its 7th season this year, and hit San Diego Comic Con last weekend. Creator Adam Reed was there along with the entire cast was on hand including Benjamin, Walters, and Aisha Tyler (Lana), Judy Greer (Cheryl), Amber Nash (Pam), Chris Parnell (Cyril), Lucky Yates (Dr. Krieger), and more.

Here are some highlights from SDCC.

Archer Season 7 Magnum, P.I. Trailer

No matter what they like to call themselves, Archer, Lana, Cyril, and the rest of the gang that used to be spies, drug smugglers, and CIA freelancers cannot seem to stick to one job. Of course, just by doing that takes away from the fun of it all. But as Archer season 7 ended on a huge cliffhanger, it was unclear if FX wanted to explore more of what the worst thing that could go wrong for these former spies was.

But worry not as FX wants to make sure that they get a proper ending as the network has officially confirmed that The show will be extended all the way to season 10. However, there is a small catch. There will be less episodes for each season. More on the story below.

A new trailer has been released for season seven of the animated comedy Archer which perfectly mirrors the opening of the hit ’80s TV series Magnum, P.I., which starred Tom Selleck and followed a private investigator living the life in Hawaii and taking on various jobs. The show had a solid run, airing from 1980 to 1988.

Archer Panel Comic-Con

Archer has rocked the cable universe for 6 seasons and the FX show rode into San Diego Comic-Con for a panel discussion, to prep fans for the upcoming season 7. For those who haven’t dabbled in the “Danger Zone” (cue Kenny Loggins!), Archer is a wonderfully crazy, borderline pornographic, and altogether maniacal frenzy of animated drugs, guns, spies, and sex. It focuses on momma’s boy spy Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin), his on-again, off-again love interest Lana (LANA!!!) played by Aisha Tyler, and their partners in secret spy agency ISIS… yeah, well… until they kinda sorta had to change that.

Watch the panel videos below.

Whose Line Is It Anyway Cast

Whose Line Is It Anyway? returns Friday, April 17, and I am super excited! This show is always guaranteed to crack me and everyone else in the universe up, with its improv shenanigans. The games are based on audience suggestions. This is “the show where everything’s made up and the points don’t matter.”

A trailer for the new season has been released by The CW, and you can check it out below.

FX has ordered not just one but two more seasons of their hit animated comedy Archer, which means fans of the show can look forward to at least season six and season seven before the next decision is made.

Each of the two seasons will consist of 13 episodes, and will bring the show into the year 2016. Archer is currently in the middle of its fifth season, the “Archer Vice” season.

Archer - Season 4 Finale Review

Archer
Season 4, Episode 13 – “Sea Tunt: Part 2”
Directed by Bryan Fordney
Written by Adam Reed & Rick Cleveland
Starring: H. Jon Benjamin, Judy Greer, Amber Nash, Chris Parnell, Aisha Tyler, Jessica Walter, Eugene Mirman, Kristen Schaal, and Jon Hamm.
FX
Air date: April 11, 2013

What always works so well for me in a comedy like Archer is how well developed each and all of the characters are. Guest stars or series regulars, Adam Reed and company nail the interactions between all involved. “Sea Tunt: Part 2” fully capitalizes on some of the exact situations you’d expect to happen when Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) and the rest of the ISIS field agents go to an underwater base. But there are still just enough swerves and twists and turns to make the episode enjoyable and downright hilarious.

The Babymakers PosterThe Babymakers
Netflix | Instant Video | Blu-ray | DVD
Directed by Jay Chandrasekhar
Written by Peter Gaulke and Gerry Swallow
Starring Olivia Munn, Paul Schneider, Kevin Heffernan, Nat Faxon, Aisha Tyler, Jay Chandrasekhar
Duck Attack Films
Rated R | 95 Minutes
Release Date: August 3, 2012

After being without the internet for about a month, perhaps longer, I was finally able to surf the interwebs at home. And so I had to get all caught up on what I had missed out on, then it was time to fire up the ole PS3 and see what was on Netflix Watch Instant. I know the whole Disney library was added and a bunch more, but I figured the easiest way to get caught up, just go through the recently added ones. Well as you can see, The Babymakers was the first one that I came across that I was somewhat interested in watching.

I was a big fan of Olivia Munn when she was on Attack of the Show, and wished her all the best when she left. It seemed that most of the movies she was involved with ended up being straight to DVD releases, which is never a good sign. But luckily for her, she had a great 2012, with being on The Newsroom and Magic Mike, so hopefully that luck will continue in 2013. I remember seeing Super Troopers and thought it was okay, and not amazing like most people did. And I remember Paul Schneider from Lars and the Real Girl, a great movie you should check out. It’s got Ryan Gosling in it, so that should be enough for most people.

Archer Season Four

If you’re a fan of FX’s Archer like I am, you’ve been eagerly anticipating the premier of season four. Well, Archer is back and it’s just as good as ever. I’ve seen the first four episodes of season four, and everything fans have come to love is here. Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) is still a jerk, Malory (Jessica Walter) is still a bitch, Lana (Aisha Tyler) still has monster hands, Cyril (Chris Parnell) is still a wuss, Krieger (Lucky Yates) is still a mad scientist, and Pam and Carol (Judy Greer and Amber Nash) are still idiots. The show still has the clever mix of pop culture references and witty humor that you’ve come to love.

You’ve never seen Archer before? Well you should do yourself a favor and watch it. It is hands down one of the funniest shows on TV. Catch up on the series: Season 1, Season 2, and the recently released Season 3, available on Blu-Ray or DVD. All seasons are also available through Amazon’s Instant Video service in both standard and high definition.

Movie Review: The Babymakers

The BabymakersThe Babymakers
DIRECTOR: Jay Chandrasekhar
WRITERS: Peter Gaulke, Gerry Swallow
STARRING: Olivia Munn, Paul Schneider, Kevin Heffernan, Jay Chandrasekhar, Aisha Tyler, Nat Faxon
Millennium Entertainment
RELEASE DATE: August 3, 2012 (limited)

I love me some Broken Lizard. The comedy troupe behind movies like Super Troopers, Club Dread, Beerfest, and The Slammin’ Salmon have brought me hours of joy (often times of the drunken variety).

The Babymakers isn’t a Broken Lizard production, unfortunately, but it does relate to them. Jay Chandrasekhar (director and star of the aforementioned Super Troopers, Club Dread, and Beerfest, as well as director of multiple episodes of hit shows like Arrested Development, Chuck, Psych, and Community) directed the movie, and Kevin Heffernan (the much-quoted Farva from Troopers) star in supporting roles. Paired with lead stars Paul Schneider (who I loved in Andrew Dominik’s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) and Olivia Munn (who I’m also a big fan of from her days on Attack of the Show), create a comedy I can get behind with a gigantic smile on my sometimes-hard-to-please face. With all of these components so appealing to me as a movie fan, The Babymakers was easily a must-see flick.
