Each and every week, I, “The Famous Cock” Henchman21, and “The Mermaid” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of August 28, 2013. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Since we took last week off, we’re here to drop an extra-sized version of the list this time. Sadly, the list contains one series that is nearly ending, and one series that is going to be significantly changing due to a switch in the creative team. But never fear, we’ve got plenty of other brilliant series to point you towards, including one issue that is a great starting point for one of my favorite titles. So, no time to sleep around, it’s time to wake up to The GoD List!

American Vampire by Dustin Nguyen

Vertigo Comics announced on Tuesday that Scott Snyder would be bringing fan favorite Dustin Nguyen on art duties for the brand new American Vampire miniseries, Lord of Nightmares.

American Vampire is quite simply a beast. Telling the tales of well, American vampires. This series has helped the effort to redefine the idea of the vampire in modern popular culture and in comics, specifically. It’s brutal; it’s violent; it’s scary. But most importantly, it’s good.

Vertigo LogoVertigo Comics announced Wednesday that they’d be kicking off their brand new digital comics app with a 99 cent sale on all Sandman comics.

So, there’s two things going on here: DC Comics has split their Vertigo Comics imprint from the main DC Comics app to give all of the Vertigo titles a digital home. That’s right! New comics like Fairest, Saucer County, Domique Laveau: Voodoo Child and The New Deadwardians will all be going day and date digital, while established books like The Invisibles, American Vampire, The Unwritten, Fables and many, many more will also be making their way to the Vertigo-only app. Which is pretty cool.

I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

I’m going to just skip the BS and tell you that a lot of great comics are coming out this week, folks. We’ve got all sorts of great single issues and collected editions that are coming out of the woodwork to get you all twisted into a much more awesome and better-looking version that you were before. I don’t know how that’s possible, but I’m pretty sure that it’s what’s going to happen. Anyway, like I said, there are so many good books this week. We’ve got some awesome stuff coming in Dark Horse Presents, hopefully a good starting point for Animal Man, the second part of Superman’s origin in Action Comics, the newest issue of “The Best Comic In The World” Locke and Key, the second issue in what could be the best new comic of the year in Fatale, another strong candidate for comic of the year with Winter Soldier, and even more in single issues, you guys. That’s not even touching the collected editions, but we’ll get to that later. Some of the comics mentioned above will be chosen, but which ones are as yet undetermined, so read forth young geeklings to find what books that we have picked out for you… within The GoD List.

Halloweekend Banner

It’s that time of year again, boys and girls! The temperature has dropped, the leaves have turned from green to varying shades of orange and red; children dress in the guise of their favorite characters, and the flickering of candles show the yellow grins of the jack-o-lanterns adorning the porches of your neighborhood. It’s Halloween, folks, and while there’s plenty of people out there that like cute, plastic pumpkins on their doors, we here at Geeks of Doom like our Halloweens a little more horrifying. So, it’s with this, Halloweekend, that I will be bringing to you a series of horror-themed features that showcase the wicked side of geek entertainment.

In the first installment of what I like to call Halloweekend of Doom, I’m going to explore 13 comic books that should get you in the mood for the greatest time of year. The list is in no particular order, and this isn’t intended to be the be all end all of horror comics, but these comics are great to read during Halloween. I’ll cover some that can be considered family friendly, but the majority of these are strictly dark and for mature audiences.

Each and every week “The Spider” Henchman21 and “The Microwave” MK2FAC3 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of October 12, 2011. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

The ‘Wave is busy traveling to New York Comic-Con, so he’s a little preoccupied this week, what with packing his Batman costume and making sure he has enough Batarangs with him so he can fight crime on the streets of the real Gotham city, so it’s just your friendly neighborhood Henchman this week (I’m already stationed here in NYC for the week). “Wavey Gravy” does want to make sure you know about The All-New Batman: The Brave and the Bold #12, out this week featuring a team-up with Zatanna. Because it wouldn’t be a GoD list without MK talking about a Batman comic. Here are a few books I am looking forward to this week.
