IT: Chapter 2 Writer Gary Dauberman Talks Visualizing The Ritual Of Chud

The malevolent sewer-scuttling clown known as Pennywise will be back next year to haunt a much older Losers Club in Derry, Maine. Andy Muschietti returns to direct the highly anticipated horror sequel, IT: Chapter 2, which will reinforce the idea that clowns are f****** scary. In it we see all the members of the Losers, who are now all grown up, return to their hometown to face off against Pennywise one last time. But it’s not so much the battle that we should be concerned with as it is the ritual that will be in the film.

Now we are getting a little hint of what to expect and how the collaboration between Muschietti and writer Gary Dauberman is helping shape the script. More on the story below. Spoilers will follow, so if you don’t what to know anything about it, then I suggest you stop right now.

Joe Hill's Locke & Key Header Image

Last year it looked like a TV series adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez‘s comic book series Locke & Key was finally going to happen, with Hulu ordering a pilot episode and Doctor Strange and Sinister director Scott Derrickson set to helm that episode. Derrickson eventually dropped out due to scheduling issues and IT and Mama director Andy Muschietti stepped in.

For whatever reasons, Hulu made the surprising decision to pass on the series. The second time that a series based on the comic looked like it was happening and then didn’t. The other being on Fox years ago. But thankfully fans didn’t have to wait nearly as long this time for the show to find a new home. It’s been announced that Netflix has picked up the show. And they’re skipping that pesky pilot episode step and jumping straight to a full-series order.

Bill Hader and James McAvoy in IT Chapter 2

We were always going to go back to Derry, Maine, to revisit the sewer-scuttling terror known as Pennywise in IT: Chapter Two. After the success of the first IT, Warner Bros. made it a priority to get a sequel out. Since this was going to take place years after the events of the first movie, director Andy Muschietti would have to recast with adult actors. And that didn’t stop any of us from creating our very own dream cast.

Currently, Jessica Chastain is the only one confirmed for IT: Chapter Two. She would reunite with Muschietti after they worked together on Mama. And now you can add two more.

According to new reports, Bill Hader and James McAvoy are currently in talks to star in IT: Chapter Two. More on the story here below.

Stephen King's It Movie Header

Stephen King’s IT
Directed by Andy Muschietti
Written by Chase Palmer, Cary Fukunaga, and Gary Dauberman
Starring Bill Skarsgård, Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, Nicholas Hamilton, Jackson Robert Scott
Warner Bros. Pictures
Release date: September 8, 2017

The first adaptation of Stephen King‘s novel It was a 1990 mini-series starring Tim Curry as the child-eating monster. The ambitious project from director Tommy Lee Wallace tried in vain to fit all 1,100 pages of King’s epic novel into two 2-hour blocks and the results were a mixed bag. The first half is nearly universally beloved thanks to some great child acting and Curry chewing the scenery and stealing nights of sleep as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. The second half focuses on the adults 27 years later returning to stop the evil again and it falters heavily from cheesy overacting and a universally “be-loathed” giant spider ending.

Coincidentally, it’s 27 year later, and Mama director Andy Muschietti took what worked back in 1990 and focused an entire film on it with Stephen King’s IT.
