The GoD List

Each and every week, I, “Ant-Man!” Henchman 21 and “The Wasp!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of July 23, 2015. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

There are weeks when I get excited about scores of books that are being released. And then there are other weeks. This is one of those other weeks, as we get a whole batch of very good comics; Secret Wars is still rolling, DC continues to roll out new books in their most recent relaunch, IDW, Dark Horse, Image and the others pump out a fine line of books. So, we’re just going with a shorter list this week, including a long running series ending in a spectacular fashion, a book from last week that I didn’t get a chance to talk about, and a book you probably never thought you would see. Let’s get The GoD List started!

The GoD List | July 8, 2015

Each and every week, I, “Not at SDCC!” Henchman 21 and “Ditto!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of July 8, 2015. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Yes, it’s that time of year again, time for the biggest comics convention in America, even if the show has moved beyond being just about comics. But it’s okay, all comic conventions have moved past comics to one degree or another. Sorry, got off track there. It’s San Diego week, which means there are a lot of new series and big hardcovers out this week to entice buyers at the show and even those of us not at the show. In fact, it’s better for those of us not going to SDCC, because we don’t have to wait in line and then figure out how to lug all this stuff back in our luggage. So rejoice at the ease with which you can buy your comics, for it is truly a good week to celebrate comics. And celebrate we shall on this week’s The GoD List!

There is a lot of great stuff out this week, including the start of a huge event, a comic that is an event every time it comes out, and some of the best comics from around the world. Archie Vs. Sharknado: Who Will Prevail This Summer?

Sharknado 2: The Second One

For those of us simply can’t get enough Sharknado, fear not! The third installment of the somehow someway mega SyFy channel hit is coming this summer. And with it is coming the first Sharknado comic-crossover, Archie Vs. Sharknado! That’s right, one of America’s longest running comic characters is meeting up with… flying sharks.

Archie, who first debuted during WWII (!!!) has found new life in crossover comics with some highly unlikely characters. Back in 2011, we got Archie Meets Kiss, and in 2013 Archie crossed the cultural zeitgeist in Archie Meets Glee. For those wondering if Archie can handle the danger… Archie Vs. Predator came out this week. Now, as the killer weather formation moves down the east coast towards Washington DC (with President Marc Cuban and VP Ann Coulter), it will hit Archie’s fictional city of Riverdale. Maybe Ian Ziering and David Hasselhoff can help Archie, Betty, Veronica and the gang.

Wow, those Predators really get around. We know from the films that they treat our world like their own personal hunting lease. We’ve seen them fight virtually everything under the sun from Batman to Aliens to Tarzan, but nothing could have prepared us for Archie Vs. Predator #1! I saw this one in the lists and just knew I had to read it. And I bet you’re curious, too!

The setting is Riverdale as our buddy Archie and his pals debate on what to do on their Spring Break. Thanks to a miraculous windfall of Jughead’s, the group gets a free trip to a beach resort. The odd ducks out here are Cheryl and Jason, who seem bent on making life difficult for the teens.

Archie Comics: Game of Thrones

Coming off their successful and critically acclaimed Afterlife With Archie, the comic book series that set the Archie gang in a Walking Dead-style zombie apocalypse, Archie Comics has announced a follow up in the style of another popular TV series. Game of Archie places the gang in a medieval epic filled with dragons, sex, and lots of political backstabbing in the style of Game Of Thrones.

In the new series, Betty and Veronica are the leaders of two great house in the world of Riverdaleos. They must fight against each other for the hand of Archie, who is the son of the former king of the land, exiled at a young age, and prophesied to return to the kingdom on the backs of his wondrous dragons. Meanwhile, King Reggie struggles to keep hold of the throne while dealing with the political intrigue from Moose, Midge and Kevin Keller. In the north, Jughead Snow finds his place in the world after joining the Night’s Watch and fighting against the oncoming threat of the White Walkers.

It’s another jam packed week with tons of new series from Marvel (All-New Invaders, Image (Deadly Class), DC (Harley Quinn #2), and the return of The Unwritten from Vertigo with Unwritten Vol. 2 Apocalypse #1. There’s also the end of a much loved series (at least by me) with the final issue of FF (FF #16). So you’ve got that, plus new issues of Mind MGMT, a great jumping-on point for Valiant’s Eternal Warrior, as well as the first trade for the same series. And then we’ve got the books below which are all more than worth your time and money, so let’s dive on in to an all new GoD List!

Each and every week “Easy Peasy” MK2Fac3 and “Livin’ Greasy” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of April 18, 2012. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Man, comics are pretty expensive, huh? I’m sitting here looking at my pull list this week, and I’m not seeing a lot of books that fall under the price of three dollars. See, while comics for the most part are less than a gallon of gasoline in some regions, others are more, which is just flat out insane. So, when we’re stuck in an economy such as this, with an unemployment rate as high as it, we need an escape. And if you’re reading this, I’m assuming that you’re escape is the same as ours, comic books. Comic books get a lot of flack for a lot of different reasons, but there’s something about even the super hero books that everyone complains about that offer something that no other form of entertainment offers. So, it’s with this idea that we present The GoD List, a list full of comics that we are looking forward to that should help you, if not solve these real-life situation, then at least provide away to temporarily relieve them by letting you know what’s worth your time and why.
