Marvel Cinematic Universe Rankings

Not all Marvel Cinematic Universe films are built the same, but they are all pieces of a larger puzzle. Each one of them serves some sort of purpose to tell its own story while also moving the universe towards a certain direction. So with each and every new installment comes new praises and criticisms.

While it is easy to say that every new Marvel Studios film is better than the last, the truth is, they are not. Some are better than others. With Spider-Man: Homecoming hitting theaters this weekend, I decided to rank all 16 MCU films that have been released, from worst to the best.

Top 10 Favorite Movies of 2016

Now that 2016 is behind us, it’s time for me to reveal my favorite Movies of 2016. On a global level, the year 2016 will go down in history as a difficult one, where we lost a lot of talented people and there seemed to be an overall negativity in the air (thanks in part to the general election here in the U.S). On a personal level, 2016 was not only difficult, but sorrowful, as I lost my father to cancer. My dad loved movies, and every time we got together, we would discuss the films we had recently seen. Dad got sick early in the year, so we didn’t get to have our usual movie pow-wows.

My top movies are always of the blockbuster, superhero, scifi/fantasy variety, with some comedies sprinkled in, because I like to rewatch movies, so I tend to pick more uplifting titles as “favorites” — therefore, I’m not saying my list is of the “best” movies, they are just the ones I enjoyed the most and will likely rewatch to my heart’s content.

Captain America: Civil War

Whenever a hero decides to pass the torch to another hero or just decide to live the rest of their lives as their alter-ego, it’s a pretty big thing. But what happens when there is no one to pick up the shield in your absence. That is going to be the big question going into the Marvel Cinematic Universe post-Captain America: Civil War as one of the most prominent members of the Avengers will no longer be recognized by the patriotic moniker.

Civil War directors Anthony and Joe Russo recently revealed the fate of Steve Rogers’ status as a hero, and what it may mean for the future of MCU. More on the story below, oh, and of course, spoilers below if you haven’t already seen it.

‘Captain America: Civil War’: A 12-Year-Old’s Thoughts

Movie Review: Captain America: Civil War, starring Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.

Captain America: Civil War is the 13th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The ongoing film series started back with Jon Favreau’s 2008 Iron Man, and has hit some incredible highs and some modest middles… honestly none of the films are bad, some just mildly disappointing. Directed again by the Russo Brothers (Captain America: Winter Soldier), the new film is the most challenging of the MCU thus far, asking the audience to choose sides over the Sokovia Accords, a treaty signed by hundreds of nations that would put the Avengers under the control of the UN. This is in response to all the past events in the series, but specifically an Avengers mission in Nigeria that stopped a sinister plot, but left many civilians dead. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is sick of watching his technology kill innocents, so he is firmly pro-Accords, whereas Captain America (Chris Evans) believes the whole point of the Avengers is to do what they feel must be done without interference. Things get more complicated when Cap’s old best friend and former brainwashed Hydra assassin Bucky, aka The Winter Soldier, (Sebastian Stan) is blamed for a terrorist attack.

Civil War marks the beginning of the MUC’s Phase 3, which includes a whopping 10 films, including standalones for Doctor Strange (November 2016), Spider-Man (July 2017), and Black Panther (July 2018), as well as sequels for Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy. By the time Phase 3 gets to the two-part climactic Infinity War saga in 2018-19, my son will be a 15-year-old high schooler. As for now, 12-year-old Brandon is obsessed with all things MCU. After seeing Civil War for a third time Thursday night, we got into a near hour-long Q&A about the film, the characters, and all things MCU. So I decided to track some of our talk in a little interview to give the pre-teen perspective.

Spoilers if you haven’t seen Captain America: Civil War yet…

Birdman Michael Keaton in talks for Spider-Man

Just a few weeks ago it looked like Sony and director Jon Watts were going to have to find a new actor to play the villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Academy Award winner Michael Keaton was the frontrunner for the role, as reports spread about his possible casting. However, the actor seemingly dropped out of the running.

However, it seems as though the thought of being in a Spider-Man movie that is now a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe could not escape the actor, as he is now back in talks to star in the same role. There are also reports that there will be more than just one villain in the film. Find out more here below.

The Fantastic Four movie 2015 Michael B. Jordan joins Black Panther

Just one day after it was revealed that Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) was in talks for a major (yet unspecified) supporting role in Black Panther, we have word that the hotly-anticipated Marvel Studios production is preparing to add another high-profile performer to the cast.

According to Borys Kit at the Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, Panther director Ryan Coogler will be reuniting with his Fruitvale Station/Creed star Michael B. Jordan for the Marvel superhero adventure that has been in development for several years now and was announced as part of the studio’s Phase Three release slate back in October 2014.
