Toby Jones May Be Reprising Arnim Zola Role In ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

Toby Jones, Arnim Zola Image

Captain America was able to look so young in the modern age by unwillingly (or willingly depending on your point of view) encasing his body in ice. But as for some other people, surviving for decades and not dying is another story. One character in Captain America lore that has the most perplexing presence in the modern age is that of Arnim Zola, played by Toby Jones in Captain America: The First Avenger.

In the comics, Zola was able to transfer his consciousness into a robotic body, which allowed him quasi-immortality and the ability to continue to carry out his mad scientist experiments. As crazy as that sounds, it’s quite possible that we could see that happening in the sequel as Jones has said that he will reprise his character for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Frank Grillo Tested For Crossbones

It only feels like the rumor that Frank Grillo would play Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier surfaced last week. Maybe that’s because it was last week. So today, there is confirmation that Grillo will be playing as the skilled marksman in the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger. But what does this mean for the titular villain?

Rumors of Grillo testing for Crossbones came about when the actor tweeted some Marvel Studios related material along with the hashtag Captain America – these tweets were later deleted. There were no other actors reportedly testing for the role of the deadly assassin. In fact it was the first time the villain’s name came up. The news of Grillo’s casting was confirmed earlier today. Now how the villain will be introduced into the story remains a mystery.

Frank Grillo Tested For Crossbones

Being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a pretty big deal. Almost everyone who is involved in one brings something unique to the roles they play. Tom Hiddleston did it for Thor and The Avengers, and Hugo Weaving – despite what he may have said about returning to reprise his role – did it for Captain America: The First Avenger.

With Ben Kingsley taking on the villain role for Iron Man 3 (check out the new trailer here), and Christopher Eccleston playing the villain in Thor: The Dark World, a new actor has emerged to possibly face off against Cap in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Except, he might not play as the titular villain. Check out who he might play below.

Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull

Very few of the Marvel Cinematic Universe villains have lived long enough to see a sequel. But one fate that is the most mysterious so far is the fate of the Red Skull. While Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki continues to live on to be a threat to Thor and The Avengers, Hugo Weaving doesn’t seem to be too excited to reprise his role as the Red Skull, a character he captured effortlessly in Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger.

While the actor did admit that he wasn’t keen on coming back as the Red Skull, he also said that he would reprise the role only because he is contractually obligated to do so. Here is the full quote from Collider.

Disney In Depth: Destination D: An Evening with Alan Menken, The Music of Disney

For many attendees of the Destination D experience, the last event was perhaps the most special, in that “An Evening with Alan Menken” touched the hearts and souls of everyone who has ever wanted to hear the master of his craft live.

Alan Menken, the composer behind the films and songs we know by heart, presented the most extraordinary two hours of music I have ever heard – and seen – in my life. Now that’s quite a statement. Some may call that a bit exaggerated, but as a devoted Disney fan, like almost all of my fellow audience members, we knew the gift we were being presented. Menken rarely performs publicly, so to hear his legendary stories and songs in person made this even more winning.

Anna Kendrick, Imogen Poots, and Felicity Jones Up For Mysterious Role In Captain America 2

There would be no hero without the love interest. Aside from saving the world from any sort of dire situation, the hero comes back home to the arms of their love. But that seems a bit difficult for Captain America, considering he’s been under a very cold sleep for almost 70 years. So any hopes of reuniting with Peggy Carter would be near impossible.

But as luck would have it, directors Anthony and Joe Russo hope to spark a new romance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. According to The New York Post, they have narrowed down their choices to three very capable actresses: Anna Kendrick, Felicity Jones, and Imogen Poots.

BAADASSSSS!   |

With The Avengers set for release a little over a month from now Marvel Studios has good reason to celebrate. A decade ago the idea of getting Earth’s mightiest heroes together in one movie was laughable given that the film rights to the various characters were owned by different Hollywood studios who weren’t exactly receptive to the idea of a collaboration that would force them to share the potential wealth with their Tinseltown rivals. It wasn’t until Marvel formed their own movie division and started financing blockbusters like Iron Man and Thor that the company could finally take control of their celluloid destiny.
