Catwoman

Warner Home Video, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros Animation announced details on their upcoming DC Animation panel at next month’s New York Comic-Con, as well as releasing the first image from the Catwoman short feature on the Batman: Year One DVD and Blu-ray releasing on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

First, this animation panel at NYCC looks amazing. The panel will be an hour long on Friday, October 14, and will take place from 3-4pm. Scheduled to appear on the panel are legendary casting director Andrea Romano, DCU executive producer Bruce Timm, and the voice of Batman himself Kevin Conroy. The announcement hints at more possible guests for the panel, as well. And if one person could be suspected of showing up, it would be Eliza Dushku, the voice of Catwoman in both the 15-minute animated feature that this panel will be debuting and Batman: Year One, but that’s purely speculation on my part. In addition, the panel guests will be available for autograph signings directly after the panel.

relaunch banner

As most of you may know by now, DC Comics is relaunching their entire line of comic books this Fall alongside a day and date digital comics initiative. What you might not know, however, is that it all started three weeks ago with the releases of the last issue of DC’s summer event Flashpoint, and the beginning of the new universe with Justice League #1.

This Wednesday is the third big week of releases and I’m picking up a lot of these books, and there are still a lot of books to look forward to in these upcoming weeks, as well as plenty that you and I will probably want to stay away from for varying reasons. So, in the order of kindness and assignments from my editor, I will be breaking down each title with their creators, what they’re about, and what you can expect from each of the new books. And, guess what? I’m not in love with a lot of the decisions that they’ve made, so this should be fun!

Bat-Analysis: The Costume Of Catwoman In ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Selina Kyle

Hey everybody, I just woke up to see that the first official promotional photo of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman from Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises had just been released. Thirty minutes staring at the photo, 3 minutes finding a picture of Julie Newmar, and two scans later, I’m ready to give you guys my perspective in the first edition of what I like to call Geeks of Doom’s Bat-Analysis.

So, let’s start with the actual promo photo shown above, shall we?

What we have here is Anne Hathaway in a tactile suit that looks like leftover costuming from the G.I. Joe movie. That’s not a bad thing at all, mind you, it just has the appearance of being more along the lines of something a spy or high-tech thief would wear, as opposed to the all-leather costumes we’ve seen before. You know, those horrible made from scratch [get it!?] costumes that were featured in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns starring Michelle Pfeiffer and [this is totally not] Catwoman starring Halle Berry. So Hathaway’s costume itself is faithful enough to a real world adaptation of something the character that Selina Kyle from the comics would actually wear.

The big surprise for comic boo fans at E3 this year was that Batman: Arkham City, the follow-up to the highly popular Batman: Arkham Asylum, would allow you to not only play as the Dark Knight, but as Catwoman as well. The Joker—who returns here and is once again voiced by Mark Hamill—was a playable character in Arkham Asylum, but only on the PlayStation 3, so this is exciting news for you Batman fanatics.

Along with the Catwoman news, the team at Rocksteady Studios came to the convention with a large amount of gameplay footage to show off, as well as plenty of new details on what you can expect from the expansive new game.

You can continue on below now to see two videos—the first revealing and discussing the inclusion of Catwoman while the second talks more about Batman: Arkham City as a whole.

Anne Hathaway Cast In ‘The Dark Knight Rises’; Tom Hardy’s Role Revealed

Warner Bros has announced that the role of Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) will be going to our national treasure Anne Hathaway, while Tom Hardy‘s role was revealed as Bane in the highly anticipated third and final installment of Christopher Nolan‘s vision of Batman in The Dark Knight Rises.

When asked about the addition of Hathaway, director Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.” Nolan went on to give his opinions on Hardy as Bane, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

I am very excited by this news as Anne Hathaway has been one of my favorite actresses since I’ve been in high school, and I think she has unique characteristics that will be beneficial to the character of Selina Kyle, especially if we’re looking at a Long Halloween/When in Rome take on the character, which would not be surprising, considering that the team of Christopher Nolan and David Goyer have looked towards The Long Halloween as a major influence on their films.
