James Corden Red Hot Chili Peppers Carpool Karaoke

You all may know by now that I am a fan of the late night talk show shtick (Jimmy Fallon IS my boyfriend). “History of Rap,” “Mean Tweets,” Really?” “Freestylin With The Roots” – If I hear it was done, I am on my DVR or Youtube the next morning (my bedtime is 9pm). Recently, and maybe I am late to the party, I chanced upon a lovely bit on The Late Late Show with James Corden, that I could swear he got from me (sans celebrity guests)… Carpool Karaoke. The discovery was made when James Corden had the lovely Gwen Stefani riding shotgun, and they then picked up George Clooney and Julia Roberts (cue brain explosion).

Well last night Corden delighted us by showing his experience driving around and singing around with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Check out the video below.

Will Ferrell and Chad Smith drum battle on The Tonight Show featuring Jimmy Fallon

For the longest time, people have been saying that comedic actor Will Ferrell (Anchorman, Step Brothers) and Chad Smith, the drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers, look like one another. These two make every “celebrity lookalike” list ever made. But while those lists oftentimes really stretch in their celebrity comparisons, the Will Ferrell/Chad Smith pair is spot on – these dudes really look like twins.

So, last night, the two men made an appearance together on The Tonight Show featuring Jimmy Fallon where they had a drum battle!!!

Watch the video here below of the drum-off, as well as the video of Fallon interviewing the two men – and as you can imagine, it was very hard for Fallon to not fall over laughing.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Funkmeisters Red Hot Chili Peppers have just made available a brand new track, via their official website, entitled “In Love Dying,” which is another hot release in their 18-song series of outtakes from their 2011 release I’m With You.

Check out the song here below.

The song is an almost 9-minute slice of hypnotic groove-laden ambience, driven by one of the best basslines to come from the mind and soul of their bass player, the incomparable Flea, back beated by the great tight-as-a-drum four on the floor attack from Chad Smith, the special, sprawling, relentless, endless melodic passes by guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, and of course, the almost reggae-ish, shamanic vocals by Anthony Kiedis.

Release date: October 24, 2011 UK
November 1, 2011 U.S.

Supergroups are always a precious thing. Usually the ego-meter is higher than the number of tracks recorded, but lower than the probability that it will crash and burn. Having two ex-members of Van Halen in Chickenfoot always sounded like someone was waving a blowtorch at a short fuse. The explosion would surely follow.

And yet here we are, two years after Chickenfoot’s self-titled debut album for album number two. According to guitarist Joe Satriani in his interview with Geeks of Doom, singer Sammy Hagar named the band’s second album III because drummer Chad Smith and bassist Michael Anthony wanted to call it IV. Well I’m glad that’s cleared that up then.

Interview: Chickenfoot Guitarist Joe Satriani

Joe Satriani has earned huge success as one of the finest guitarists of his generation. He has recorded 13 solo albums (including the hugely popular and cosmically amazing Surfing With The Alien) and appeared on countless others by various different artists.

In 2008, Satriani teamed up with ex-Montrose and Van Halen lead singer Sammy Hagar, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and ex-Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and a Chickenfoot was hatched. His wealth of experience and talent prevented them from being just another ‘supergroup’ and helped them become a hard-rockin’ hard rock party band.

Their self-titled debut album was a huge success as were the live performances captured on the DVD Chickenfoot: Get Your Buzz On LIVE. These legends of the genre return with their second album, the confusingly named Chickenfoot III on September 27th. Early reviews suggest it’s better than the first.

Produced by Rick Rubin

Release date: August 29, 2011

A lot has happened to the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the last 5 years. Since the release of their last album, 2006’s Stadium Arcadium, drummer Chad Smith joined Chickenfoot, bassist Flea went to school, singer Anthony Kiedis grew a moustache, and guitarist John Frusciante left due to ‘musical differences’ (why won’t bands just tell the truth and put out a statement that reads – to paraphrase Friends – ‘it’s just…we hate that guy’?). Now with Josh Klinghoffer on guitar duty, the Chili’s have released album number 10, I’m With You.

As I opened the case I kept repeating to myself, “don’t let me down, don’t let me down…”

Someone heard me. Loud and clear.

Stadium Arcadium had, apart from a small selection of songs including “Dani California” and “Hump de Bump,” had very little to revisit. At 28 tracks long, it was too much and a little self-indulgent. I’m With You includes half its predecessor’s number of tracks and twice the quality.

Released date: 26 April, 2010 (UK); May 4, 2010 (US)

Oh no, not another rock band made up of ex-members of other way more famous bands. Not another group of musicians tarred with the ‘supergroup’ brush. Surely the world doesn’t need another bunch of millionaires telling everyone how ‘blessed’ they now feel. But Chickenfoot is a band with a line up of ex-members of Van Halen and Montrose, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Come on — right now it doesn’t get much more super than that.

Chickenfoot released its eponymous debut album last summer to a hugely positive response helping the music and the band to get its beak into most rock award categories at the end of the year. And now, after an extensive tour of America and Europe, lead singer Sammy Hagar, bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Joe Satriani have released a concert DVD — Chickenfoot: Get Your Buzz On LIVE.
