In a rather captivating, though curious manner, you might find it astonishing that Gareth Roberts‘ adaptation of the Doctor Who adventure by Douglas Adams called Shada caused music to play in my head.

That sounds a little weird, of course. But when it comes to both Doctor Who and Douglas Adams, the strangeness should not only be expected by now, but mandatory par for the course.

Allow me to explain.

I have found, in my years of being an overly obsessive geek that the best adaptations of already established franchises inspire your mind to create the ambience of the universe you’re investing in. In all types of writing, a good author will not only be able to explain the scene to you, but totally immerse you in it: you can see the brightness (or gloominess) of the sky, you can almost feel the floors or walls of the setting, and you can smell the odors described, such as the scent of rain on a hot day… or petrichor, for example…

In the previous Pond Life, we see what happens when a surprise “Ood on the Loo” becomes part of the houshold. In Part Five, we move forward, with the Doctor (Matt Smith) leaving a phone message as he becomes concerned about his friends, the Ponds, as things are not looking too good for Amy and Rory in Pond Life…

Countdown to Doctor Who Series 7

The BBC has posted Part Four of Pond Life, focusing on Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) in the lead-up to Doctor Who Series 7. You can check out the new installment below.

In the previous Pond Life, the Doctor (Matt Smith) manages to leave behind a surprise guest in the Pond household, resulting in Amy and Rory discovering an “Ood on the Loo”! In Part Four, we learn what happens to the Ood that ended up in their home…

Pond Life will spearhead directly into the events of the debut episode of Series 7, which is called Asylum of the Daleks. It is essentially a prequel that sets the tone for Amy’s and Rory’s relationship, but also their friendship with the Doctor. The couple will be departing the series this season, after which the Doctor will come across new companion Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman).

In the previous Pond Life, Amy and Rory receive an odd phone message from The Doctor (Matt Smith), as for the first (known) time in his life as a Time Lord he keeps in touch with companions away from the TARDIS. While the Ponds seem amused during the first part, in the second we discover that the Doctor’s timing isn’t always brilliant…

Countdown to Doctor Who: Asylum of the Daleks trailer

The BBC has released a new trailer for the upcoming premiere episode of Doctor Who Series 7, entitled Asylum of the Daleks. Complete with the return of all versions of the iconic Daleks, including some from the Classic era, you can check out the new teaser at the bottom of this post.

Asylum of the Daleks begins with [WARNING: some minor spoilers ahead!] the Doctor being reunited with companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams (Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill respectively), who are dealing with some of their own real-life dilemmas. As the Doctor sweeps them into time and space again, they are captured by the Dalek Parliament, who demand that the Predator of the Daleks aka The Doctor (we assume so) is sent into the Asylum of the Daleks to destroy those therein.

Countdown to Doctor Who Series 7

BBC America has released a brand new trailer for Series 7 of Doctor Who, that contains some awesome new footage not yet shown in the UK trailers. You can see the trailer in all its brilliance at the bottom of this post.

Some of the footage not seen before includes a short shot of River Song (Alex Kingston) and some film of the Weeping Angels from the final episode featuring Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) and Amy Pond (Karen Gillan).

Doctor Who Series 7 showcases the return of the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, and is produced by showrunner Steven Moffat. The seventh series will be split in two for broadcast: part one playing during the Fall, the Christmas Special introducing new companion Clara played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, and then part two concluding the seventh series during Spring 2013.
