Ghostbusters Stars Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon

Last year, a new all-female reboot of Ghostbusters hit theaters. Though it grossed $229 million worldwide at the box office, that was off of a $144 million production budget. So adding the millions that was put into the marketing campaign, the film was barely a mild success. Thus, there will probably be no sequel. The film was fine, and with the way it ended, there was plenty of stories left to tell. But it all comes down to money, and if there isn’t any, then it isn’t worth it for the studio to take such a risk.

Now one of the Ghostbusters alum believes he knows why the reboot didn’t work. According to Dan Aykroyd, it was director Paul Feig. More on the story, below.

‘The Blues Brothers’ Animated Series May Not Be As Bad As You Think

The Blues Brothers header

What started out as a sketch on Saturday Night Live, The Blues Brothers became one of the best comedies to feature rhythm and blues musical acts. Starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as “Joliet” Jake and Elwood Blues, respectively, the 1980 film had the two characters in a tale of redemption where they embark on “a mission from God” to save from foreclosure the Catholic orphanage in which they were raised.

Unfortunately, John Belushi died in 1982, but somehow a sequel was developed and released in 1998. Despite having the creative and performing core group return, the sequel never quite lived up to expectations and turned out to be a commercial and critical failure.

However, Aykroyd is going to develop an animated series based on the two films. But it is not as bad as it sounds thanks in part to the creative team that is involved. More on the story below.

Ghostbusters

Whenever a reboot or remake happens, sometimes the original stars appear in some sort of cameo as a nod to its fans. In Paul Feig‘s new vision of Ghostbusters starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon, a few of the surviving members of the original film are coming back in a cameo capacity. Dan Aykroyd was the first to be announced, followed by a surprising confirmation of Bill Murray’s participation. Murray was the last person anyone would have thought to have joined this film, mostly because he didn’t want to concede to do a Ghostbusters 3.

Now he is revealing why he decided to be in the new Ghostbusters. Check out his explanation here below.

Ghostbusters

Cameos in reboots are a nice nod to the originals, but don’t happen for all films, and it nearly didn’t happen for the upcoming Ghostbusters. Dan Aykroyd signed on for a cameo role in the new Paul Feig-directed reboot, which is currently in production in Boston. But he won’t be the only original member of the Ghostbusters cast to cameo in the reboot. Reports are coming in that Bill Murray had arrived in Boston last week, to shoot his own cameo appearance.

‘The Blues Brothers’ Celebrates Its 35th Anniversary!

The Blues Brothers

The Blues Brothers, an audacious, hilarious, over the top, high budget, quirky, zany R-Rated musical film, which showcased the exploits of one Jake and Elwood Blues, two caucasian blues musicians decked in black hats, sunglasses, and loosely fitting yet snazzy suit and tie combos, celebrates its 35th anniversary today.

The film, one of the earliest cinematic tie-ins to come from the long running comedy-variety program from Saturday Night Live (where the characters musically made their debut), remains a high octane cult favorite to legions of fans around the world to this day for many reasons: The crazy quilt plotting and pacing by director John Landis, off-the-wall characters that range from sinister country folk to Nazis that hail from Illinois (the film is set in Chicago), and the music, which is red hot blues and R&B standards sung by the likes of heavyweights of that genre like John Lee Hooker, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway and Ray Charles. Also of course, the performances of the lead characters, Dan Aykroyd (who co-wrote the script with Landis), and the late, great, cherubic, rough-around-the-edges king of the irreverent and brash comedy castle, John Belushi.

Ghostbusters Logo Title

Sony already has a reboot of the 1984 classic Ghostbusters in the works, featuring an all-female cast of ‘busters in Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon, but it turns out that project is not their only plan with the franchise moving forward.

After years of rumors of a Ghostbusters 3 being developed by the guys behind the original eventually became the all-female reboot mentioned above, it’s being reported that Sony has actually created a new production company called, quite fittingly, Ghostcorps, led by original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman and star Dan Aykroyd with the mission of finding branding opportunities based on the original.

Female ‘Ghostbusters’ Officially A Go; Paul Feig To Direct, ‘The Heat’ Writer Will Pen Script

Katie Dippold

After waiting years for Ghostbusters 3 to happen, news broke today that we will be finally getting it. Just not the one you’d might expect to see. Bill Murray had expressed interest in seeing the franchise go through a reboot with an all female cast, and that of course sparked talks amongst fans. Though we do not know who will be casting, Paul Feig confirmed that he will be directing the film, and that The Heat writer Katie Dippold will pen the script.

Dan Aykroyd has repeatedly kept Ghostbusters 3 hopes alive, but with Murray uninterested in the project and the passing of Harold Ramis, any hopes of bringing the crew back together were slim. So seeing Feig taking the reins for a whole new film could be fun, and the idea that this will be an all female cast is refreshing. Hit the jump for more.

Dan Aykroyd Believes ‘Ghostbusters’ Franchise Could Mirror Marvel Cinematic Universe

ghostbusters

For whatever strange reason, Ghostbusters 3 news just won’t stay dead. It feels like we’ve been reporting on every single thing related to the long-gestating sequel, and nothing has come to fruition. The sequel is actually more in limbo than it is gestating considering a script hasn’t been written yet, but it is one film that refuses to die. Part of that is thanks to Dan Aykroyd, who is doing all he can to keep Ghostbusters 3 news alive.

Now a new rumor, which comes from Aykroyd himself, yet again, says that Ghostbusters could go far beyond just a trilogy. It could have a universe in the vein of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thirty years ago, I was a rambunctious 2-year-old who only knew Sesame Street and PBS. Thirty years later, I’m a crazed movie geek with an overflowing DVD collection who spouts movie lines at will. One of the quintessential films that my friends and I grew up watching, re-watching, and quoting was Ghostbusters, Ivan Reitman’s comedy of bungling scientists and real-life spooks in NYC. Imagine the euphoria upon finding that we thirtysomethings now have a chance to view one of our favorites in theaters for the first time!

To commemorate the 30-year anniversary of its debut in the Summer of 1984, Ghostbusters is back in theaters starting today for ONE WEEK ONLY! Who you gonna call?

The Long Lost Bill Murray Film ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ Surfaces Online

BAADASSSSS!   |

Bill Murray

In the 39 years since it went on the air for the first time, Saturday Night Live has seen its talented cast, writers, and production staff go on to conquer Hollywood and forever change the landscape of modern comedy filmmaking. Some of the movies they made were classics, some were pretty good, a few were downright awful and excruciating to watch, and most were simply blah. But at least they saw a legitimate release in one form or another so that viewers could make their own judgments.

Such wasn’t the case with Nothing Lasts Forever, an oddly endearing science-fiction romantic comedy adventure written and directed by Tom Schiller, a filmmaker beloved for making such classic SNL short subjects as La Dolce Gilda and Don’t Look Back in Anger who would later go on to direct over 500 humorous television commercials for his own company, Schillervision. Despite having never received an official release in theaters or on home video in the three decades since it was originally scheduled to premiere and subsequently buried by its home studio, the film has found its way in full onto YouTube.

You can watch Nothing Lasts Forever here below.
