Paul Newman was a radioman-gunner in WWII. Afterword, he studied at the Actor’s Studio under Lee Strasburg. He worked on a bunch of TV shows before starring in his first film, The Silver Chalice, in 1954. Richard Dreyfuss’s Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, have earned 2 billion and 1.2 billion dollars respectively worldwide (to-date gross – adjusted for inflation). The last movie Marilyn Monroe was working on, Something’s Gotta Give, with Dean Martin was scrapped because of her drug and mental issues. Movie Star Chronicles: A Visual History of the World’s Greatest Movie Stars by Ian Haydn Smith provides you with this kind of info and more. SXSW 2013 Movie Review: David Gordon Green’s ‘Prince Avalanche’

Prince Avalanche

Prince Avalanche
Director: David Gordon Green
Cast: Paul Rudd, Emile Hirsch, Lance LeGault, Joyce Payne

1988. Meditative and pertinacious Alvin (Paul Rudd) and his girlfriend’s half-baked brother, Lance (Emile Hirsch), leave the city behind to spend the summer in solitude repainting traffic lines down the center of an old country highway in Garland, Texas. As the two road workers traverse the remarkable landscape (scourged by wildfires), an unlikely bond develops through humor and nasty exchanges.

David Gordon Green made his feature film debut in 2000 with the critically acclaimed George Washington, which he wrote and directed. In 2003, All the Real Girls cemented Green as an indie filmmaker in the Southern Gothic tradition, telling coming-of-age stories set in small rural towns.

From there, Green moved from the country to the big city, where he was quickly caught up in a maelstrom of bizarre mainstream comedies: 2008’s Pineapple Express, HBO’s Eastbound & Down), 2011’s disasterous stoner-fantasy, Your Highness, and the Adventures in Babysitting remake with Jonah Hill, The Sitter.

David Gordon Green’s Remake Of The Horror Classic ‘Suspiria’ Going Forward

Suspiria

Of all the filmmakers whose body of work I admire David Gordon Green has had the the strangest career trajectory. The Arkansas-born director started out making small scale indie dramas like George Washington, All the Real Girls, and Undertow. Then in 2008 he scored his first bonafide smash hit with the stoner action comedy (and personal fave of yours truly) Pineapple Express. The next year he began directing episodes of the brilliant HBO comedy series Eastbound & Down). In 2011 Green’s directing career took a major hit when his two forgettable studio comedies Your Highness and The Sitter came out and landed with thuds at the box office. Now the talented filmmaker is returning to a project has been attached to for several years but until now has not been able to locate the financing for.

Green’s proposed remake of the 1977 Italian horror classic Suspiria, which first went into development in 2008 and was once mooted to star future Oscar-winner Natalie Portman, is back on track after securing the participation of Crime Scene Pictures, which will finance and produce the film with producers Francesco Melzi d’Eril and Luca Guadagnino. Green will direct from a script he co-wrote with Chris Gebert, a sound mixer and editor on all of his films making his writing debut.

Despite being a part of some genuinely mediocre projects, Johnny Knoxville appears to be as hot a comedic property as ever.

Big Beach Films has announced that Knoxville and fellow comedian Patton Oswalt will star in a new yet-to-be-titled film from director Todd Rohal. The movie will follow the story of a “pair of battling brothers who attempt to honor their ailing father by taking a troop of boys on a last ditch camping trip that goes wildly wrong.” Maura Tierney, Patrice O’Neal, and Rob Riggle will co-star.

Watch Now: ‘The Sitter’ Red Band Trailer

The Sitter Trailer

“My mom was so right. Nice guys really do eat the best pussy.”
“Not really sure how to interpret that.”

The holiday season. Perfect time for spending time with the family, going for moonlit strolls on a winter evening, and battling crowds of insane consumers for that last bottle of your wife’s favorite perfume or else she’ll divorce your sorry ass. How about a hard-R comedy about babysitting that’s about as raunchy as a major studio can get these days? Don’t mind if I do.

Up until a few days ago I had no idea this movie even existed to be perfectly honest with you, but 20th Century Fox has just released a trailer for The Sitter, a new comedy starring Jonah Hill and directed by David Gordon Green. You can watch the red band NSFW trailer below this article.

Movie Review: Your Highness

Your Highness
Directed by David Gordon Green
Staring Danny McBride, James Franco, Natalie Portman
Rated R
Universal Pictures
Release date: April 8, 2011

Your Highness is the new movie from the people that brought you Pineapple Express, a movie that mixed stoner comedy with an ’80s action movie with some success. Your Highness looks to do take a stoner comedy and mix it with a Lord of the Rings-style fantasy. I was getting my hopes up before seeing Your Highness, mostly because I like Danny McBride and because I liked what I saw in the commercials. Unfortunately, it didn’t exactly live up to my expectations, which doesn’t make it a bad movie, it just means it left me a little disappointed, and I think a lot of people will feel the same way.

Your Highness is the story of two brothers, Fabious (James Franco) and Thadeous (Danny McBride). Fabious is the successful brother and future king of the land. Thadeous is a screw-up who doesn’t want to do anything except spend his nights with wenches and weed. When Fabious’ fiancée Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel) is kidnapped by the evil wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux), the two brothers must go on a quest to rescue her. They are joined by Thadeous’ squire, Courtney (Rasmus Hardiker), and are later joined by Isabel (Natalie Portman), another adventurer with a grudge against Leezar. Their quest is filled with monsters, betrayal, and a little bit of drug use, before their final confrontation with the wizard.

Red Band Trailer For Danny McBride & James Franco Adult Fantasy ‘Your Highness’
space
The Movie God   |  @   |
space

Ladies and gentlemen, the vulgar and hilarious adult-aimed fantasy movie you’ve all been (probably) waiting for has arrived.

The movie is called Your Highness, and it’s a fantasy with all the swords and magic and mythical creatures you would expect. What you might not so much expect is that the movie is directed by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Eastbound & Down), and mixes a whole lot of comedy, swearing, sex, and drug use into the fantasy pot.

To show off a bit of the naughty elements of the movie, a new red band trailer has been released for our enjoyment. And yes, the swearing does feel a little awkward given the setting of the movie. That said, Your Higness looks like it could be a lot of fun and a crazy new and unique spin on the fantasy genre.

As always, be sure to head on over to the other side to read a synopsis and watch the new red band trailer. And obviously, this trailer is NSFW and you should approach with caution!

David Gordon Green To Direct ‘Freaks Of The Heartland’ Adaptation
space
The Movie God   |  @   |
space

FreaksDavid Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) has been hired to direct the movie adaptation of the graphic novel Freaks of the Heartland.

Freaks of the Heartland deals with a small town where kids are becoming monsters or “freaks” of sorts and one boy’s effort to save his brother, who is one of them.

The graphic novel is written by Steve Niles and illustrated by Greg Ruth. David Gordon Green will also be producing the project with Dark Horse Comics president Mike Richardson, with Niles executive producing.

The comic isn’t extremely well-known, so many won’t be sure what to expect, including myself. But from the names attached to the project and from the looks of it, Freaks of the Heartland has the potential to be a very interesting movie.
