Twin Peaks Showtime

Exciting news for fans of Twin Peaks awaiting word on when they’ll get to see Showtime’s revival of the series we first found out about way back in 2014.

It’s been officially revealed that the new season—which was originally planned to arrive sometime in 2016—will now premiere on May 21st at 9PM on Showtime. Twin Peaks Showtime

Fear not, the revival of David Lynch and Mark Frost‘s ’90s mystery drama Twin Peaks we first heard about back in 2014 is still on its way to Showtime. We just have to wait until next year instead of getting it sometime this year as originally planned.

To help fans pass the time, the official cast has been revealed. That might not sound like something that would pass any time, but you’ve not yet seen the list. It clocks in at over 200 names, many of which are familiar—some returning stars reprising their roles, which are marked with an asterisk; others just familiar names from different places such as actors like Amanda Seyfried, Tim Roth, Monica Bellucci, and Michael Cera, musicians Trent Reznor and Eddie Vedder, and even MMA star Michael Bisping, just to give you a small sampling.

You can check out the full list below.

David Lynch and Mark Frost's Twin Peaks

Back in May of 2013 Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos talked about the possibility of them reviving dead TV show favorites that were canceled far too early, such as Firefly, Jericho, and Twin Peaks.

As it turns out, one of those shows is now ready to rise from its grave. It has been announced that Twin Peaks, the popular mystery drama from David Lynch and Mark Frost that ran for two seasons from 1990 to 1991 (and was followed by a movie, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, in 1992), will be returning in 2016 on Showtime.

Showtime revealed the news in a video announcement, which can be seen below.

Dune

“The year is, like, a billion or something….”

Toys, hastily-assembled costumes, cardboard box “shields,” fake eyebrows, cheesy effects that make Mystery Science Theater 3000 look like 2001: A Space Odyssey, sock puppet “sandworms,” lots of overacting, and of course…space pen. Yes, friends, David Lynch‘s much-derided 1984 adaptation of Frank Herbert‘s landmark sci-fi novel Dune has become the latest film to receive its own sweded video.

You can watch the 7-minute video here below.

New ‘Dune’ Director Pierre Morel Wasn’t Satisfied With David Lynch’s Movie; Has Big Plans

Dune

It hasn’t been long since Pierre Morel was hired to step in and direct the new film being based on the 1965 Frank Herbert novel, Dune. As you know, David Lynch was the director of a 1984 film of the same name that was based on the book, but don’t for one second think that this new movie has anything to do with that film — no, this is an entirely new interpretation of the story.

Morel spoke to MTV recently, where he was sure to explain his plans for this new venture.

The Taken director first explained that he was a big fan of the book, and that he really wasn’t happy with the ’84 film:

Like many people, I was not fully satisfied with David Lynch’s movie in 1984. I do respect David, and I think his interpretation and vision was interesting, but not what we [fans] expected. And I thought I’d give it a chance, try to do this, make it faster and more modern. I think that now, in 2010, we have the technology to achieve much more than David could do twenty-five years ago. I think it will be cool to try something different.

Dune

A remake of the 1984 David Lynch film Dune has been on the way for a while now. The movie was beginning to take some steps when The Rundown and Hancock director Peter Berg was hired to helm the remake. These steps ended when Berg stepped away after he was offered the opportunity to direct a movie based on the popular Hasbro game, Battleship, which he felt that he simply couldn’t turn down. Now comes word via Entertainment Weekly that Paramount Pictures has found and hired Berg’s replacement for Dune, and his name is Pierre Morel.

Morel is fairly new to the directing game, but he has showed promise so far. He directed the popular Liam Neeson angry father film Taken, and the upcoming John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers action flick, From Paris With Love. Before starting his career as a director, he also worked as a cinematographer on movies like Jason Statham’s The Transporter and War.
