Confirmed: ‘Deadwood’ Movie Officially On The Way At HBO
We’ve been hearing about a possible Deadwood movie for a while now. It was reported back in 2015 that HBO was considering a follow-up to the western TV series, which ended its three-season run 12 years ago now in 2006. In early 2016 it sounded like HBO had given the greenlight to the movie, though apparently that was just a verbal commitment. Then, later in 2016, came word that series creator David Milch was working on the screenplay for the movie.
We got a brief update on the movie’s status last year, but for the most part things have been relatively quiet the past couple of years. But now business is really picking up. HBO’s president of programming Casey Bloys movie has officially confirmed that the Deadwood is on the way and will hopefully begin filming soon.

HBO Offers Updates On ‘Deadwood’ Movie, ‘True Detective,’ ‘The Night Of’
In addition to talking about the current status of any possible Game of Thrones prequels or spinoffs, as well as how many episodes season eight will have, HBO president of programming Casey Bloys also offered brief status updates for some of their other projects.
Bloys shared the current status of that Deadwood movie we’ve been hearing about, which fans of the western series have been anxiously awaiting word on. The update doesn’t really offer much, sadly, so don’t excitedly rush below to see it. He also shared where things stand on two more recent shows: True Detective, which had an outstanding debut season but rough second season, leaving the status of season three up in the air; and The Night Of, their crime series which was initially a limited series but due to its success is being considered for new episodes.
See what Bloys had to say about the three projects below.

‘Deadwood’ Movie Screenplay Now Being Written
Earlier this year we found out that HBO had committed to making a Deadwood movie after those whispers that they were considering it made the rounds a year ago.
At the time series creator David Milch was working on another project, and the plan was that he would begin working on the Deadwood movie screenplay after he finished work on that project. All of this appears to be falling into place with word that Milch is in fact writing the script now.

‘Deadwood’ Movie Given Greenlight By HBO
Back in August it was reported that HBO was considering the possibility of making a movie to continue the story of their series Deadwood, which was canceled far too early almost a decade ago now back in May of 2006.
Now it appears that a Deadwood movie is in fact happening, believe it or not. In a recent chat with president of HBO programming Michael Lombardo, he said that he has given the go ahead to series creator David Milch to make the movie. Read the quotes and more below.
