Guillermo del Toro wins DGA Awards The Shape of Water

The 70th Directors Guild of America Awards (DGA) have been given out, two of which went to directors who will be vying for the Academy Award for Best Director next month. While Guillermo del Toro earned an award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for his work on period piece fairy tale The Shape Of Water, Jordan Peele took home the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director for his work on the terrifying thriller Get Out.

These awards are oftentimes a predictor of who will win the award for a said guild. SAG typically predicts who will win the performing awards, WGA the writing, PGA the best picture, and DGA the director. Check out the list of winners 2018 DGA winners for film and TV here below.

Guillermo del Toro Directing The Shape of Water

Awards season is already in full swing with the HFPA having awarded the Golden Globes this past weekend, and the LAOFCS announcing their winners last month. We’ve already seen nominations from SAG, WGA, and PGA, and now the Directors Guild of America have released their own nominees for film and TV.

Among those honored are Guillermo del Toro for The Shape of Water, Greta Gerwig for Lady Bird, Jordan Peele for Get Out, and Aaron Sorkin for Molly’s Game. There’s also Christopher Nolan for Dunkirk and Martin McDonagh for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Check out the full list below.
