Toy Story 4

Pixar’s Toy Story 4 is a return to familiar ground that is fully realized with groundbreaking animation and riveting storytelling. The heart of these films is the relationships that people have with their toys, and a toy’s purpose in life to give kids joy. And in Toy Story 4, it questions what makes a toy a toy? It’s the kind of film that will see one new toy go through an existential crisis and a dear friend reunite with a lost love who presents the idea of paradise for a toy.

For the past few weeks, we have shown you what it was like to visit Pixar, shown the technological advances, and shared a roundtable discussion with Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley and producer Mark Nielsen.

Now we are sharing some of the things that we have learned about Toy Story 4. Check out the 40 things we learned about the highly anticipated animated sequel including the development of a story, how a virtual camera works, designing sets and characters, and more, below.

TOY STORY 4

As a reporter, I have opportunities to visit animation studios and get a sneak preview of their upcoming films. It’s an exciting experience to step foot in these studios, to see such their rich histories and marvel at the legacy they are creating. But there’s nothing like visiting Pixar Animation Studios. When one gets an invite to go there, it’s hard to say no. So I was caught off guard when said invite came. Needless to say, I immediately said yes.

As a Pixar fan, I was going to enjoy every single moment and every single second of being on their campus in Emeryville, CA. It goes without saying that it was a life-changing experience. And so, after all the flights and getting settled into the hotel, I joined a group of journalists to take a look at the Pixar campus to see what Toy Story 4 is all about. More on this and reaction to the footage we were shown, below.

Toy Story 4

Earlier this month, I got the very rare opportunity to join a select group of journalists to travel to Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, CA, where we got a sneak preview of Toy Story 4. The fourth installment of the Toy Story franchise sees Woody and Buzz go in a new direction by tapping into new themes that were never explored in any of the previous films. This is what helps keep the franchise fresh and new.

I’ve already shown you how technology has changed since the first Toy Story came out, but now it is time to hear from a roundtable interview we had with director Josh Cooley and producer Mark Nielsen about the upcoming film, the daunting task of revisiting a beloved franchise after the third is considered perfect, bringing Bo Peep back, and more. Check out what they had to say below.

TOY STORY 4

Pixar Animation Studios has come a long way from where they first started out releasing commercials for top brands names. After the release of Toy Story in 1995, they became the premiere animation studio and are now recognized all over the globe for creating beautifully animated films that are rich in color and story. Though they pride themselves in releasing original stories, they have also released prequels and sequels to some fan-favorite films. And now they will be releasing Toy Story 4. The film is the 21st feature released by Pixar, and sees Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), and the rest of the gang going on a new adventure and reuniting with an old friend, Bo Peep (Anne Potts).

Geeks of Doom and a select number of journalists were flown all the way to Emeryville, California to visit the Pixar campus and get a behind-the-scenes look at the film. We will have extensive coverage on Toy Story 4 and our visit to Pixar Animation Studios in the coming weeks. So be sure to stay tuned. But we will first start off with how far Pixar’s technology has come since they first started out in 1995. So let’s take a look at how the technology has advanced by leaps and bounds. Check it out below.

Incredibles 2

The Incredibles 2
Director: Brad Bird
Writer: Brad Bird
Cast: Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, Samuel L. Jackson, John Ratzenberger, Brad Bird, Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener, Sophia Bush, Isabella Rossellini
Studio: Disney/Pixar
Rated PG | 118 Minutes
Release Date: June 15, 2018

The Incredibles is that perfect blend of fun and nostalgia. It’s that call back to a time where things were much simpler, but there was still a world that needed saving. There was no social media. Fun actually consisted of going outside and getting fresh air. And yet, the themes explored in that film still felt very relevant to the time of its release. Insecurities, loss, family. Everything about it was signature Pixar. Those poignant themes mixed in with a whole lot of fun. And who doesn’t love a good superhero movie?

Flash forward 14 years later. Superhero movies are now all too common. There are those who are worried about superhero fatigue. Some even roll their eyes at the fact that another is released or are shocked that there is a sequel. But not so much with Incredibles 2. It’s the sequel everyone is waiting for. The entire cast is back for this animated feature and with Brad Bird at the director’s helm for a sequel that proves good things come to those who wait.

Cars 3

Pixar’s Cars 3 is a huge change of pace for the franchise. The film sees Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) blindsided when a new generation of faster, more powerful, and younger racers join the racing circuit. Determined to stay in the sport that he loves, Lightning goes through a new-age training regiment with the help of Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo), an eager young technician who has her own plans for winning. And while they might not agree on which training method works, they discover they need each other to reach their goals more than they realized.

We were fortunate enough to attend the press day of Pixar’s latest animated film where the attendees talked about who inspires them, some of their personal struggles, how one person can make the difference, and more. Check out what they had so say here below.

Pixar Easter Eggs Up

One of the many things Pixar is known for, is including Easter Eggs in their movies that connect said movies to other movies they’ve made. They do it so often, in fact, that a popular fan theory is that every movie they make is set in the same world.

A new video has been released which supports this theory in a lot of ways, showcasing a bunch of these Easter Egg connections. From humans to toys, bugs to cars, monsters to machines, the connections find their way to them all.

Continue below to give the video a watch.
