Disney In Depth Banner

Stop the digital presses! A Wreck-It Ralph sequel has been officially announced, although ever since John C. Reilly hinted at a sequel in development, everyone has just been waiting for word from the Mouse House itself.

Now it is actually happening. The Walt Disney Animation Studios film, to debut on March 9, 2018 – thus supplanting the previously scheduled Jack and the Beanstalk adaptation called Gigantic, to premiere in November 2018 – will see the return of Ralph, Vanellope, and many more. Will the sequel destroy the competition, proving to naysayers that a further entry in this brand will succeed, and shall it add to viewers’ adoration of the animated movie? I have no doubt that Wreck-It Ralph 2, as it is tentatively called, will absolutely nail it!

Starring Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit, Daniel Henney, T.J. Miller, Genesis Rodriguez, Jamie Chung, Damon Wayons, Jr., Maya Rudolph and James Cromwell
Walt Disney Home Entertainment
Digital Release Date: Feb 3, 2015
Blu-ray Release Date: Feb. 24, 2015

It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Big Hero 6 blasting off on Blu-ray. The Disney animated hit sees its Blu-ray home release and digital download premiere via Disney Movies Anywhere. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ latest production won over audiences and critics upon arriving in theatres, and those same individuals will be glad to hear that its home release does not disappoint either.

FILM

As I suggested in my original review of Big Hero 6, this action flick demonstrates the studio’s ability to seamlessly blend multiple genres in one. As much as this embodies an origins film that could lead to a sequel, the bustling gang of eccentric characters are crafted to make us fall in love with each of their personalities. This is a story about brothers, loss, new friendships, perseverance and the other touching factors you’re accustomed to from watching a great Disney movie. Additionally, laughs enter in each minute and a few tears are not far behind.

Disney In Depth: Can Pixar Regain Its Glory?

For 15 years, one computer-animation studio dominated Hollywood with 11 major hit films, earning awards a plenty and worldwide critical acclaim for its output. Then came Cars 2. And Brave. Lest we forget Monsters University (which I actually found entertaining) and an entire year (2014) with no feature films. Pixar was a powerhouse, but now its corporate owner (Disney) has an unbeatable animation studio of its own. The question we all continue to wonder is if Pixar can reclaim its title as an unstoppable force.

Disney In Depth previews the recent past and future of Pixar, hoping to determine if John Lasseter‘s computer-animation studio can finally be able to dismiss naysayers, once and for all, that its hit streak was a one-time experience.

“A whole new world” exists for those visiting Broadway, as Aladdin, the classic Disney animated film featuring the Oscar-winning music of Alan Menken, Tim Rice, and Howard Ashman, finally hits The Great White Way. Release Date: November 27, 2013

Breathtaking, bewitching, and beautiful are among the words that come to mind when I see snowfall. Similarly, these same words can describe Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 53rd feature film. Frozen, perhaps the most winning formula for the studio since 1999’s Tarzan, blends together a flurry of deep characters, compelling storylines, masterfully-written music and stunning animation. Brace yourself for a surprising ride that features more unexpected storytelling turns than you might expect. Let’s dash off into a review of Frozen.

Ever since I first heard an early version of the show-stopping ballad “Let It Go” at the August 2012 Destination D event, I knew this film would be special. This tale, loosely-based on The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen, had potential – at least in its music department. But I will dive into that shortly. Let us first explore the story.

Disney In Depth: Robin Hood Blu-ray Review

Walt Disney Home Video: Robin Hood blu-rayRobin Hood
Blu-ray | DVD | Instant Video
Directed by Wolfgang Reitherman
Starring Brian Bedford, Monica Evans Phil Harris, Peter Ustinov, Terry-Thomas, Andy Devine, Roger Miller and Carole Shelley
Walt Disney Home Entertainment
Release Date: August 6, 2013

Robin Hood finally shoots its way onto Blu-ray, but sadly the titular character does not steal the screen in the best way. It’s no Disney classic, at least for those of us who did not grow up with Maid Marian and friends, but the 1973 movie deserves a viewing if you go into it with reasonable expectations.

Film

Fair warning. I did not have any sentimental feelings in watching Robin Hood, namely because I did not watch this film repeatedly during childhood. Thus I found it harder to connect with the oddball assortment of characters and collection of ideas that somehow never seem cohesive. The personalities are cute. The forceful underdog story moves even the most cynical. The humor recalls the tongue-in-cheek intelligence found in many of Disney’s finest. Yet Robin Hood appears to try too hard in representing something remarkable when at its core the film is straightforward minimalism.
