For years we have awaited 2015, a period that would produce so much awesome entertainment unlike no other. With Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Tomorrowland, Pixar’s Inside Out and Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the short-term horizon on the film side, Disneyland’s 60th on the theme park side, and a variety of exciting television/digital projects to debut, Disney continues to demonstrate its power in the media world.

Last week’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders revealed a few upcoming plans, complemented by a slew of headlines that have rocked the industry — and, most of all, rocked in a great way. Needless to say, there is likely no better time to be a Disney fan. At the very least, divisiveness acknowledged on some issues, we can have more substantial and more frequent discussions on Disney’s entertainment dominance and interesting avenues for extending its branding reach.

Let’s reflect on where and how Disney succeeded in 2014, as well as analyze components it could have improved.

“Hooray for Hollywood” was once the signature tune of the then-named Disney-MGM Studios. For the past seven years the park has existed under Disney’s Hollywood Studios label. After more than 25 years, the park’s original main attraction quickly closed.

The end of the Studio Backlot Tour mirrors the major changes irrefutably in store for the park in the near future. Let’s remember the attraction and imagine the possibilities in store for the park with this newly available space.

If you have the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World, you must know which rides and shows everyone queues up for at the start of the day. At Epcot, all race toward Soarin’ or Test Track. For Animal Kingdom, Expedition Everest, and Kilimanjaro Safaris bring the longest lines. But many attractions are often unfortunately overlooked, namely because many other spectacles distract guests’ attention.

The purpose behind this Disney In Depth is to honor the many shows, exhibits, films, and rides that may be forgotten in the mix of the most popular attractions at Walt Disney World. Here are my 10 Most Overlooked Walt Disney World Attractions.

Disney In Depth: Disney To Acquire Lucasfilm, An Analysis From The Disney Fan Perspective

We were all shocked to discover when Darth Vader revealed himself to be Luke Skywalker’s father. But we experienced perhaps even more shock when news broke this week that The Walt Disney Company was acquiring Lucasfilm, George Lucas’ 41-years-strong company. Now, Mickey Mouse will be both Vader’s and Luke’s parent, though not by blood — what an awkward “modern family” that deserves some critical examination.

Puns and jokes aside, this $4 billion purchase follows what has been a whirlwind of new ventures for Disney in just the past seven years since Bob Iger attained the role of CEO of The Walt Disney Company. 2006 marked Disney’s purchase of Pixar. 2009 signified Disney’s purchase of Marvel. And now 2012 represents news of Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm. One can only imagine what the Mouse House will obtain in 2015 if this ironically-consistent pattern of buying a big entity every three years continues. These heavily-expensive, but ingenious acquisitions reflect Disney’s focus of branding and leveraging well-known and well-received properties.

The most magical kingdoms on Earth are unfortunately not spared from mistakes taking place. Though the Disney theme parks, resorts and ships are almost perfect in every way in how they operate, every now and then a blunder or error temporarily disrupts the magic.

In this edition of Disney In Depth, I’ll provide some commentary on a variety of funny and regrettable videos found on YouTube that even make Goofy appear less clumsy.
