Pixar's Finding Dory

The first trailer for Finding Dory, Pixar’s follow-up to their 2003 animated hit Finding Nemo, has been released online.

The trailer is of the teaser variety, setting up the sequel’s story. The movie centers around the first film’s forgetful fan favorite, Dory (once again voiced by Ellen Degeneres), as a fragment of her memory involving her family returns to her, leading her to set off on a mission to find them.

You can check out the first trailer for Finding Dory below, along with a poster for the movie.

Finding Dory

After a short-lived stint with live-action films, Andrew Stanton returns home to direct Finding Dory, a sequel to the fan favorite Finding Nemo. Angus MacLane (Toy Story of Terror) joins him as co-director. Rather than just have another story about a missing fish, the follow-up changes a few things up by making Dory go missing after realizing that she got separated from her family after being hit with short-term memory loss. Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks will reprise their voice roles as Dory and Marlin respectively, with Hayden Rolence replacing Alexander Gould as Nemo.

During the Walt Disney Animation Studios presentation at the D23 Expo on Friday, we learned that Finding Dory will be adding Ty Burrell (Modern Family) as Bailey, a beluga white whale, Ed O’Neill (Modern Family) an octopus with a missing arm, and Kaitlin Olson (Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as a whale shark. More here below on their characters plus a description of the footage that was shown at the panel.

WRITERS: Stephen Volk, Nick Murphy
STARRING: Rebecca Hall, Dominic West, Imelda Staunton, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Cal Macaninch, Shaun Dooley
BBC Films
RELEASE DATE: August 17, 2012 (limited)

As a lover of all types of horror movies, and especially of a good ghost story, I was excited to check out The Awakening, the new thriller from director Nick Murphy, who’s making his feature debut.

The movie follows Florence Cathcart (Rebecca Hall), a paranormal hoaxes author and true skeptic in a devastated post World War I England who’s firmly set on revealing the real cause of paranormal occurrences, whether they be scientific or man made trickery. Clearly battling some of her own demons, Florence is one day visited by Robert Mallory (Dominic West), who claims that there have been many sightings of a child ghost at the boarding school he teaches at. At first she shrugs him off, offering a simple explanation for his problem, but when he rebukes them all and clarifies that this isn’t about finding a ghost but calming the fears of the boys who attend the school, she decides to help.

Upon arriving Florence investigates around a bit and sets up her many complex tests, which leads to what appears to be a resolution. But when strange things continue to happen and she sees things she cannot explain, everything Florence has so strongly believed in will be tested.

Written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, A Princess of Mars is the first book in the John Carter of Mars series, which tells the story of a Civil War veteran transported to Mars.

For nearly 100 years, Hollywood has failed in its attempts to bring Burroughs’ classic science-fiction fantasy to the silver screen, though the ideas presented were borrowed by countless other works.

Burroughs’ John Carter of Mars series is so old that it actually influenced other influences. From Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian series to the pulpy Flash Gordon serials of the ’30s and ’40s that inspired George Lucas’s Star Wars, the themes and elements of Burroughs’ work have been mined so thoroughly that most moviegoers will find Disney’s live-action film adaptation, John Carter, to be rather irrelevant – but that’s not to say it isn’t entertaining.
