Angelina Jolie is Maleficent in Disney’s MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL

Although it wasn’t the most well-received of the Disney live-action adaptations of their animated classics, Maleficent went on to be one of the biggest blockbuster films of 2014. As such, it deserved to get a sequel. Flash-forward five years later, we are getting that with Angelina Jolie returning to reprise the role that she was born to play in Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil. However, the title character’s happiness won’t be continuing, as Aurora (Elle Fanning) has a new fiance, whose family promises to care for her the way that Maleficent never could. It’s a story that we have all seen before. An unfounded talent, usually from a small town, goes mostly unnoticed, who goes on a meteoric rise to fame once they are discovered. These stories aren’t confined to fictional TV shows or movies. Sometimes they are real life to some. And to others, we get to see it play out on reality TV. Such is the premise for Teen Spirit, starring Elle Fanning as a shy young small-town girl who has dreams of stardom, and accomplishes that dream in the most unorthodox of ways.

Disney Maleficent Angelina Jolie

It’s been a while since we’ve seen any news from Maleficent 2, the sequel to the very popular reimagining of Sleeping Beauty. Starring Angelina Jolie, the film pictured the title character as a protagonist who was wronged by a scheming king who took her wings away thereby taking her powers away. She would eventually get them back, and like most fairy tale endings, they all lived happily ever after.

But there was no way that a huge success like that wouldn’t be followed up with a sequel. And that’s what we are getting. The sequel has a brand new title and now will go by Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Not only that, but there is a new release date and a teaser poster. Check them all out below.

Movie Review: Sofia Coppola's The Beguiled (2017) starring Nicole Kidman

The Beguiled
Director: Sofia Coppola
Screenwriter: Sofia Coppola
Cast: Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, Colin Farrell
Distributor: Focus Features
Rated R | 94 Minutes
Release Date: June 23, 2017

Sofia Coppola‘s first short film, 1998’s Lick the Star, follows a clique of teenage girls led by Chloe, who is obsessed with V.C. Andrews’ novel, Flowers in the Attic. Chloe orchestrates a plan with her girl gang to “weaken” the boys they don’t like at their school by poisoning their lunches with arsenic. The 14-minute black and white 16mm short film shows early signs of Coppola’s fascination with the themes of isolation and identity, sexual awakening, and the trauma of adolescence.

Since then, Coppola has explored these ideas in the 18th, 20th, and 21st centuries with Marie Antoinette, The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Somewhere, and The Bling Ring. Now, the writer-director journeys to the 19th century with The Beguiled, a remake of the 1971 film of the same name, based on the 1966 Southern Gothic novel, A Painted Devil, by Thomas P. Cullinan.
