Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

The art of movie poster design isn’t easy. Especially when one follows the theme of characters leaning against something, being back-to-back, floating heads, etc. And the harsh criticism only gets worse when the photoshop is obvious. Case in point, the first poster for Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The film, which is set for a July release, stars Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio as struggling actors living in 1969 Los Angeles at the height of the Manson murders. Check out the poster here below.

First Image From Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Directed By Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will take audiences back to the golden age of hippy Hollywood while also exploring Charles Manson and the murder of Sharon Tate. The director has always had an interesting perspective in telling fictionalized versions of history. So it should be very entertaining to see what kind of story he has to tell here.

Production on the film started today for a 2019 summer release. And though it may be a while before we see anything substantial, photo drops should be enough to hold us over in the long run. The first of these comes from Leonardo DiCaprio, who has released an image of him and co-star Brad Pitt, in attire that befits the ’60s era. Check it out below.

Directed by Andre Ovredal
Cast: Emile Hirsch, Brian Cox, Ophelia Lovibond, Olwen Catherine Kelly, Michael McElhatton, Parker Sawyers, Jane Perry
IFC Films | 86 Minutes
Release Date: December 21st, 2016

“Doesn’t look like someone broke in; to me it looks like they were trying to break out.”

The Autopsy of Jane Doe opens right at the end of very strong year for horror. There were critical and theatrical hits like The Conjuring 2, Don’t Breathe, and Ouija: Origins of Evil, as well as plenty of noteworthy films uploaded to various streaming sites. I saw the preview for The Autopsy of Jane Doe and it genuinely creeped me out. Directed by Scandinavian filmmaker Andre Ovredal (Trollhunter), The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a claustrophobic, atmospheric, and an overall scary movie that fits comfortably amongst this year’s horror best.

SXSW 2013 Movie Review: David Gordon Green’s ‘Prince Avalanche’

Prince Avalanche

Prince Avalanche
Director: David Gordon Green
Cast: Paul Rudd, Emile Hirsch, Lance LeGault, Joyce Payne

1988. Meditative and pertinacious Alvin (Paul Rudd) and his girlfriend’s half-baked brother, Lance (Emile Hirsch), leave the city behind to spend the summer in solitude repainting traffic lines down the center of an old country highway in Garland, Texas. As the two road workers traverse the remarkable landscape (scourged by wildfires), an unlikely bond develops through humor and nasty exchanges.

David Gordon Green made his feature film debut in 2000 with the critically acclaimed George Washington, which he wrote and directed. In 2003, All the Real Girls cemented Green as an indie filmmaker in the Southern Gothic tradition, telling coming-of-age stories set in small rural towns.

From there, Green moved from the country to the big city, where he was quickly caught up in a maelstrom of bizarre mainstream comedies: 2008’s Pineapple Express, HBO’s Eastbound & Down), 2011’s disasterous stoner-fantasy, Your Highness, and the Adventures in Babysitting remake with Jonah Hill, The Sitter.

Killer Joe PosterKiller Joe
Directed by William Friedkin
Written by Tracy Letts
Starring Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple, Gina Gershon, Thomas Haden Church, Marc Macaulay
LD Entertainment
Rated NC-17 | 102 minutes
Release Date: July 27, 2012

Directed by William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The French Connection), Killer Joe stars Matthew McConaughey as a charming, soft-spoken, Dallas Police Detective who moonlights as a contract killer.

Friedkin’s film, which is rated NC-17 for “graphic disturbing content involving violence, sexuality, and a scene of brutality,” will no doubt shock some people with its twisted, unrestrained look at dysfunctional, desperate rednecks in the American South. It’s certainly offensive, but gloriously so.

22-year-old Chris (Emile Hirsch) finds himself in debt to drug lord Digger Soames (Marc Macaulay) after his own mother steals the cocaine he was given to sell. Chris, who is as Texas white trash as they come, comes up with the harebrained scheme to hire a hitman to kill his mother, whose $50,000 life insurance policy could easily cover his debts. The problem is, Chris’s little sister Dottie (Juno Temple) is the beneficiary, and she’s a few egg noodles short of a tuna casserole, if you know what I’m saying.
