Jurassic World Short Battle At Big Rock

It will still be another year and a half before a new Jurassic World sequel hits theaters, and many are curious to see the state of that world now that dinosaurs are roaming free after they broke out at the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. So director Colin Trevorrow and Jurassic World 3 co-writer Emily Carmichael came up with Battle Of Big Rock, a film short that shows how the people have adapted to co-existing with those giant beasts. The short recently aired after a broadcast showing of Jurassic World on FX. But just in case you missed it, Universal Pictures has put it up online for all you (and many other Jurassic Park and Jurassic World fans) to see.

Jurassic World Short Battle At Big Rock

The Jurassic World fanbase was all shook up when Colin Trevorrow announced that he shot a short film that would be tied to the films called Battle at Big Rock and that it would air on FX this week. It came as a huge surprise to many of us, especially since it was a production that virtually went unnoticed. The short takes place a year after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Not that dinosaurs haven’t been running wild in civilized areas before, but now things have definitely changed. And the short will attempt to address how much this world has changed when a family, who are vacationing at Big Rock National Park, confronts these dinosaurs.

Now before Battle at Big Rock makes its debut on FX, Trevorrow has shared a little bit about the upcoming short and how it will tie into the larger Jurassic World universe. Check out what he had to say below.

The first Pacific Rim was more style over substance. Where the film excelled in its visual spectacle, it clearly lacked in strong character development and an engaging narrative. With so much missing, it’s hard to believe that a sequel could ever be greenlit. And yet, here we are, with Pacific Rim Uprising. An unnecessary sequel, that no one asked for, and yet, it’s still so much fun to watch. My full review below.

Pacific Rim: Uprising Header

Guillermo del Toro‘s Pacific Rim gets high marks for its giant robot vs Kaiju fun. Though the film was more style than substance, and almost all of it took place in the dark, making it that much harder to see the fights. However, Pacific Rim: Uprising looks like it will take a new direction. The connective tissues of its predecessor are still there. Familiar characters are making a return, and John Boyega (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father (played by Idris Elba) gave his life to secure humanity‚Äôs victory against the monstrous Kaiju.

Of course, there are the giant robots and Kaiju. However, the sequel seems to be introducing new elements into the franchise. And one that may present a threat to the Jaeger pilots when another Jaeger appears to them as the opposition. Check out the latest trailer below.
