Ted Movie PosterTed
Directed by Seth MacFarlane
Written by Seth MacFarlane
Starring Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Seth MacFarlane, Giovanni Ribisi, Jessica Stroup, Patrick Warburton, Joel McHale
Universal Pictures
Rated R | 106 Minutes
Release Date: June 29th, 2012

Ted might be the funniest film of the year. I’m actually kind of ashamed of how much I laughed during it. I’m talking about doubled-over, insane laughter that could be (and probably was) mistaken for a hysterical screaming fit – like I was being stabbed in the theater, Julius Caesar-style. Et tu, Seth?

From Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show, Ted stars Mark Wahlberg as John Bennett who, as the result of a childhood wish, has a living, breathing teddy bear companion in Ted (voiced by MacFarlane). John’s girlfriend of four years, Lori (Mila Kunis), wants more from their relationship and John will be forced to choose between the love of his life and his plush, stuffed best friend.

MacFarlane’s live-action effort features seamless computer animation visual effects facilities Tippett Studio (as in Phil Tippet, a childhood hero of mine) and Iloura. MacFarlane wrote the screenplay with Family Guy colleagues Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. The amazing thing is, Ted feels like a live-action extension of MacFarlane’s signature style of animated shenanigans. From the random, completely obscure pop culture references to the surprise cameos, Ted instantly made me dream of a photorealistic Family Guy movie in the stylings of The Adventures of Tintin.

Whether you love or hate Family Guy, you have to admit that their work spoofing Star Wars (with the blessing of a one George Lucas, of course) has been pretty fantastic thus far.

It’s already been stated that they would not be doing the prequel movies of the mega-franchise, so all that’s left to be done is release the third and final spoof of Return of the Jedi. The final installment is called Family Guy: It’s A Trap!, and it will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 21. And to help get you excited, you can get your first look at the trailer right now!

Unlike the first two chapters of this epic animated parody, characters from all of creator Seth MacFarlane‘s shows will be used, including American Dad and The Cleveland Show. You’ll catch a few of said characters making brief appearances throughout the trailer.

Use the Force to bring some tasty treats closer, then head on over to the other side to check out the trailer for Family Guy: It’s A Trap! immediately!

If you’ve ever watched Family Guy, you know that creator Seth MacFarlane has a soft spot for a good Broadway tunes. Many episodes include classic covers or original songs performed in an old school style, usually will comedic elements mixed in.

Week of Geek: The Empire Strikes Back 30th Anniversary

family guy something something something dark side

Hulu has put up the Family Guy hour-long episode Something, Something, Something Dark Side, an animated parody of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back which sees the Griffin family and friends acting out the roles of the original film.

The oversized episode is now streaming for free for residents of the United States and can be watched in its entirety here below.

Something, Something, Something Dark Side is the sequel to Family Guy‘s Star Wars-themed movie Blue Harvest. It infuses humor into the much-loved Empire Strikes Back and pokes fun at it in all the right places by stating the absurdities of certain scenarios. (For instance, why do the rebels evacuate from Hoth right into the path of the Imperial fleet?)

It’s all in good fun, especially the opening crawl text (hilarious!) and has lots of other references to pop culture in it, as well as special guests, so watch it for free while you can!

Seth MacFarlane

Seth MacFarlane has made quite a name for himself over the last decade. It all began in disastrous fashion when his new show Family Guy ended up canceled by Fox after a few seasons. Thankfully, it found an massive following on DVD and eventually was revived. After that, the show caught fire and MacFarlane ended up bringing a new show to the network called American Dad, and eventually signing an unbelievable $100 million deal.

One thing that MacFarlane has not done over the years is direct a movie, but that’s all about to change now. Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to Ted, a movie developed by Media Rights Capital and written by MacFarlane, Alec Sulkin, and Wellesley Wild.
