Blake Northcott The North Valley Grimoire header

Here at Geeks Of Doom, we love to interview folks of all walks of life. But few are as near and dear to us as internationally best-selling author Blake Northcott. As a matter of fact, she’s one of us from time to time! I have written several articles about her or her work, so I am more than familiar with everything she has accomplished. From her first book that I reviewed in 2011, Vs. Reality, to her more recent endeavors, such as writing Michael Turner’s Fathom, she has proven herself head and shoulders above the rest.

It is, therefore, my pleasure to be able to show you a bit about her and her newest book, The North Valley Grimoire! I was able to get a few answers (and a couple of evasions) from her that you might find interesting — I know I did. But then again, they were my questions, right? Check it all out here below and be sure to cruise over to her pages afterwards and preorder your copy!

Fan favorite Blake Northcott begins her eight issue run on Aspen Comics’ flagship title Michael Turner’s All New Fathom #1 this month. We were happy to hear that Northcott was taking the lead on this comic as she has written a few articles here at Geeks of Doom and is like part of our extended family.

Therefore, having said that, it should come as no shock whatsoever that I chose to review this comic. And without further ado, let’s get to it shall we?

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Extended editions of films normally are seen in the DVD and Blu-ray release, and very rarely get a theatrical release. But fans of Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit trilogy should be excited to know that the longer cut of all three films will be hitting the big screen this fall.

More on this story after the jump.

The GoD List banner

Each and every week, I, “The Famous Cock” Henchman21, and “The Mermaid” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of August 28, 2013. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Since we took last week off, we’re here to drop an extra-sized version of the list this time. Sadly, the list contains one series that is nearly ending, and one series that is going to be significantly changing due to a switch in the creative team. But never fear, we’ve got plenty of other brilliant series to point you towards, including one issue that is a great starting point for one of my favorite titles. So, no time to sleep around, it’s time to wake up to The GoD List!

The first thing I think of when I hear the name Michael Turner is fantastic artwork. And even now, five years after the loss of this great comic artist, his legacy lives on in Fathom #2. This is the fifth volume of the series and it has continued to be a beautiful tribute to the founder of Aspen Comics. I have no doubt he would be just as pleased with this as I was.

This issue starts off with a brief look at a very remote city that is populated by a race known as the Blue. Their leader, a terrifyingly beautiful woman, has been grooming a young girl as a weapon of enormous power by enhancing her already superior genetics. Half a world away, our protagonist, Aspen Matthews, has engaged in an undersea battle with half a dozen water-breathing combatants who seem hell bent on killing her. Using her innate powers of water manipulation, she attempts to disperse their attack. Unknown to Aspen, however, her opponents also have a few tricks up their sleeves, metaphorically speaking that is.

Megan Fox Boards Two Comic-Based Projects In ‘Jonah Hex’ & ‘Fathom’

Megan Fox

Megan Fox is definitely making an effort at becoming the ultimate fanboy fantasy girl. It’s being reported that Fox is in final negotiations to star in Jonah Hex, and that she is already attached to star in and develop a movie based on the comic Fathom.

Fox’s role in Jonah Hex would be that of Leila, the beautiful, but deadly love interest of Josh Brolin‘s Jonah Hex. The movie follows Jonah Hex, a horribly scarred Civil War soldier who spends his days as a bounty hunter. Hex also stars John Malkovich as the villain character. It’s directed by Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears A Who!).
