Disclaimer: So, I know this kind of defeats the purpose of writing a review, to just blurt this out upfront, but I can’t control myself. GO SEE THIS MOVIE! It’s a well-written comedy by two young women, directed by an up-and-coming filmmaker with some great performances – and it’s incredibly funny.
For a Good Time, Call… might be this year’s Bridesmaids, a raunchy, heartfelt comedy in the stylings of Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.
OK, now that I’ve got that out of the way, For a Good Time, Call… is directed by Jamie Travis from an original screenplay by Katie Anne Naylon and Lauren Anne Miller. The film premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is based on Miller and Naylon’s real-life experiences as college roommates.
You’ve probably seen Lauren Anne Miller before. She’s appeared in several films in supporting roles, including Superbad, Zack and Miri Make A Porno, Observe and Report, and 50/50. I know what you’re saying, “Wait, those are all movies that feature Seth Rogen, what a weird coincidence!” It’s no coincidence. Miller has been dating Rogen since 2004, and they recently got hitched – proving that even disgustingly funny, awkward guys can find true love.
