Get Him to the Greek
Directed by Nicholas Stoller
Starring Russell Brand, Sean Combs, Jonah Hill, Elisabeth Moss
Release date: June 4, 2010

Having been burned by spin-off’s and sequels in the past, I am not surprised that Get Him to the Greek wasn’t as good as it wanted to be. Or as good as I would have liked for it to be. It is another in a long list of movies that proves watching people have fun isn’t nearly as cool as having the fun yourself.

Aldous Snow (Russell Brand, in a reprise of his role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall) has fallen on hard times. The once successful front man for Infant Sorrow, one of the biggest bands in the world, is in the backlash stage of his career. His last album bombed, his wife left him, and as a result, he is back on drugs and alcohol. His record company, also in desperate need of a hit, decides to resurrect the band by putting on an anniversary concert to celebrate the band’s infamous show at the Greek Theatre ten years ago. Studio executive Sergio Roma (Sean “Diddy” Combs) puts intern Aaron Greenberg (Jonah Hill) in charge of going to London to bring Aldous back to L.A. for the show.

Get Him to the GreekSo did you like Forgetting Sarah Marshall? Are you a fan of Russell Brand and Jonah Hill? If you said yes to either of those, than you probably have already watched Get Him to the Greek. If you have seen other Judd Apatow films, you probably won’t be very shocked at what was brought to the table by this movie but if you like that kind of thing this will definitely be a movie you will enjoy.

I really have to say that I was very impressed by the writing in this movie. Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller did a great job with almost all of the dialogue and the situations were extremely funny. I was not as big a fan of the directing and some of the acting could have used a little work, but overall the movie was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it a lot.

Speaking of acting, the cast in the movie was extremely packed. I would say a majority of the budget was probably spent on casting alone. Some highlights outside of the two main characters are Aziz Ansari, Sean Combs, Zoe Salmon, Lars Ulrich, Pink, Billy Bush, Kurt Loder, Christina Aguilera, Elisabeth Moss, and many many more. Overall the some of the most fun in the movie is the different cast members and the cameos that you have to constantly look out for. This all coupled with some high quality comedy makes for a really fun comedy and a great summer movie.

Well let’s get to it guys. It’s time for the SPOILER TALK! Below are my spoiler laden thoughts about Get Him to the Greek and even farther below that is the comment section is where you can leave your thoughts about the movie as well.

New Muppet Movie Writer Jason Segel Signs On To Star As Well

The Muppets

We’ve been hearing a lot about this new Muppet movie that’s on the way, and it started with word that Forgetting Sarah Marshall star and director Jason Segel and Nick Stoller were writing the script.

There’s been a lot of back-and-forth on the Walt Disney Company project since then, including the hiring of Flight of the Conchords creator and writer James Bobin to direct the film. Now comes word of the first major non-Muppet casting for the movie, and it will be none other than Segel himself.

Segel is the perfect casting for the human lead of a Muppet movie — which we’ve heard would be called The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made, but it’s unclear whether this is still the case or not. He’s made it very clear in the past that in writing this movie, he wanted to revisit the Muppets of old; the Muppets of the ’80s that many of us grew up with. With a love of the characters like that, you know he’ll have the most fun in helping to really bring out the best movie.

Trailer, Poster & Synopsis For Judd Apatow Produced ‘Get Him To The Greek’

Get Him to the Greek Poster

No one denies how good the movies that Judd Apatow directs tend to be, but many great comedies that have his name attached to them are ones that he is in the role of producer on.

One of these Apatow-produced films that won many hearts and much laughter was of course Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Now, many of the talents that made that film are set to bring us another movie called Get Him to the Greek, and you can see the first official trailer, a shiny new poster, and read the full synopsis right here and right now.

The movie stars Russell Brand and Jonah Hill, and it tells the story of a young record label up-and-comer who has to find a way to get an unruly rock star from London to a comeback concert date in Los Angeles. Get Him to the Greek is also directed by Sarah Marshall helmer Nicholas Stoller, which is actually pretty fitting. Considering the synopsis of this movie, those involved, and people like Brand’s character in Sarah Marshall, it feels almost more like sequel or spinoff movie than its own film, and that could be a lot of fun in its own right.

Click on over to the other side to check out the new trailer, take a peek at the movie’s one-sheet, and read all about the storyline in the official synopsis. Head over to Apple for other trailer options.

Muppets

It’s no secret that Jim Henson‘s Muppet army is raring up to make a big comeback. In March of ’08 we found out that Forgetting Sarah Marshall duo Jason Segel and Nick Stoller would be writing a new Muppet movie for Disney.

After that, we also found out that a slew of other plans were in motion as well, including TV specials, merchandise, and music albums. In case you missed it, you can catch up on all Muppet plans here and now (Read: It’s Not Meat, It’s Not Puppets … It’s The Muppets & They’re Coming Back Big!).

At the time, it sounded like Segel and Stoller would actually be handling the directing duties of the movie as well — we knew that they could pull it off after seeing their work with the Henson-made Dracula puppet and their song “Dracula’s Lament” — but that’s not the case. It’s being reported that James Bobin, who co-created the popular HBO series Flight of the Conchords and helped Sascha Baron Cohen to create his multiple personalities — including Ali G, Borat, and Bruno — has now been brought in to helm the next Muppet movie.

Jason Segel Performs ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ Dracula Song

Dracula's Lament

If you’ve seen the comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, then you know the fantastic scene where star Jason Segel performs his song “Dracula’s Lament” in a bar in Hawaii. He also performs a big budget presentation of it later in the film. While appearing on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson recently, Segel actually performed the same song with a Dracula puppet in (or on) hand. If you’re a fan of the movie and this oddly catchy tune, you will definitely want to check this out.

Around the time that Sarah Marshall was on the way, we discovered that Segel and friend and writer Nick Stoller would be writing, directing, and starring in The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made for Walt Disney Studios. This is obviously exciting because it’s new Muppets, but also because we can see here that Segel is good with them!

Click on over to other side to watch the video, and if you haven’t seen it, it helps to go to YouTube or rent the movie first and check out the original performances to get a feel for this seriously silly song.

Muppets

If you got the reference in the title, you’re awesome and we’re putting you right up on the fridge.

Many of us cool kids are children of the ’80s, and as such, one of the greatest forms of entertainment ever to be created, is the Muppets. The Muppets are a creation of the late genius Jim Henson, who built an army of funny and lovable puppet characters who appeared in a countless amount of TV shows, specials, movies, music videos, cartoons, and everything in between. As life moved on and new generations of kids showed up, the Muppets faded off slowly, but never completely disappeared, making delightful cameo appearances on shows and events from time to time. But now, thanks to the massive Disney D23 Expo, we’ve learned that the Muppets are coming back in a big way, and their ready to take over the world again!

Back in March of 2008, we learned that we would finally be getting a brand new Muppet movie, with Forgetting Sarah Marshall team Jason Segel and Nick Stoller joining the Jim Henson Company to write and direct a new movie. Not much else had been known about the project since that time, but Coming Soon was on hand at the Disney Expo and they passed along word that a title for this movie has been made official: The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made.

Sarah MarshallForgetting Sarah Marshall
Three-Disc Unrated Collector’s Edition
Directed by Nicholas Stoller
Starring Jason Segel, Kirsten Bell, Mila Kunis, Bill Hader, Russell Brand
Universal Home Entertainment
Release date: September 30, 2008

At first glance, Forgetting Sarah Marshall might seem like another sex comedy brought to you by producer Judd Apatow and is talented gang of writer/actors. But the film, written by Apatow alum Jason Segel, is so much more.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall combines the raunchiness of Superbad with the heart of 40-Year-Old Virgin, then mixes in some non-sappy rom-com.

The premise of the movie promises a lot of sex, love, and romance, as Segel’s Peter Bretter pines over his lost love Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell), an actress on a CSI-type TV show Crime Scene: Scene of the Crime, for which Peter provides the “ominous” score.

What you might not realize is that this movie will keep you laughing out loud all the way through as Peter tries desperately to recover from the break-up — and what a break-up it is, probably one of the funniest in film history.

Forgetting Sarah MarshallForgetting Sarah Marshall
Blu-ray
Directed by Nicholas Stoller
Starring Jason Segel, Kirsten Bell, Mila Kunis, Bill Hader, Russell Brand
Universal Home Entertainment
Release date: September 30, 2008

We are now in the midst of a treacherous tidal wave of new cinema: the lewd, crude, and highly sexual cinema. It’s the kind that produces movies that really hone in on the sexual world that we are a part of today. With each film that comes along in this genre, it’s always the newest film pushing the envelope farther and farther from its predecessors. Just refer to 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Superbad. Now we can add Forgetting Sarah Marshall, a sexual breakup comedy, to this infamous list. All of these sexual comedies, especially the latter, make past movies of the same genre (American Pie) look like child’s play.

What’s so cool and special about these raunchy comedies are the fact that they’re made possible by the same group of people. This group of people all answer to writer-director-producer Judd Apatow. He has the knack of putting movies out to the public that involve his favorite people to work with. He gives the director here, Nicholas Stoller, his first crack at success. It shows he’s a virgin to directing when the film looses its mirth in the second act.
