Unravel Game

Gamescom 2015 has already come and gone, but there’s one game from the convention I didn’t get to cover that I felt needed to be shared, even if it’s a week late.

The game is titled Unravel, and it’s a physics-based side scroller puzzle platformer in which you play as a small character made of yarn named, quite fittingly, Yarny. It’s still early and we need to wait to see how it looks and plays whenever it gets released, but at the moment it’s one of the best looking side scroller games I’ve ever seen.

You can read more about the game and see the three and a half minute Gamescom gameplay trailer, as well as the game’s announcement gameplay trailer from E3 2015, in the videos below.

Evie Frye in Assassin's Creed Syndicate

If you’ve not yet heard, the latest entry in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise, titled Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, will feature two primary protagonists, twin siblings Jacob and Evie Frye. We’ve already seen some gameplay of Jacob Frye in action, and we’ve seen a cinematic trailer introducing Evie.

Now comes the first gameplay demo focusing on Evie, as well as some of the unique and helpful abilities she offers the player. The 10-minute demo shows a cool new feature where the players sees a few small cinematics prior to taking on a mission, allowing them to better choose which they feel is the optimum approach. It also looks at Evie’s chameleon ability, and her mastery of knives skill.

You can read much more about the game and watch the Evie Frye demo below.

Gamescom 2015: ‘Crackdown 3’ Gameplay Demo Is Unbelievable

Crackdown 3

I can’t say that I’m a fan of the Crackdown video game series, because I’ve never actually played it. I do have the second game in my personal library, but simply never got around to diving into it due to an endless stream of other games to play that took priority.

Crackdown 3 was first announced at E3 2014 with a cinematic trailer, and because of my unfamiliarity with the series the announcement wasn’t something to get super excited about. But the game was on hand at Gamescom 2015 this week, and a lengthy gameplay demonstration was shared of it that, I must admit, kind of blew my mind. The demonstration focuses on the incredible physics of a game that promises a fully destructible city. A couple of games have offered or attempted to offer fully destructible environments, and if you’re a fan of games like that this gameplay will likely cause you to faint.

The only thing is, in order to be this, Crackdown 3 has to do things very differently and borrow a massive amount of power. You can read more and check out the unbelievable 17-minute gameplay demo as well as a first-look video below.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

So far the only gameplay we had seen from the Tomb Raider reboot sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, was set in the ice and snow and unforgiving cold.

A new gameplay demo was presented during Xbox’s presentation at Gamescom 2015 this week, and in it Lara Croft has escaped the wintry environment and now instead finds herself dealing with bad guys in some torrential downpours.

You can check out the new Rise of the Tomb Raider gameplay demo below.

World of Warcraft Legion Expansion

Blizzard Entertainment this morning at Gamescom in Germany officially revealed the next chapter in the World of Warcraft series: World of Warcraft: Legion. The new expansion will expand the level cap once again, this time to 110. Also there will be a new playable class: Demon Hunter.

With the announcement comes a new high res CGI sizzle reel featuring Gul’dan and a brief video explaining a few of the new features. The new class will be a “Hero” class in the vein of the Death Knight class from the games 3rd expansion: Wrath of the Lich King. They will have unique abilities like seeing through walls and a double jump. The sizzle reel shows Gul’dan awakening the most well-known demon hunter in Illidan Stormrage. New demon hunters will be called upon by Illidan to fulfill quests as part of their “awakening”. Death Knights started at level 55 after isolated questing, it would be safe to say we’ll see a similar experience in Legion with Demon Hunters.

Continue below for more and to watch a feature overview of Legion and a cinematic teaser.
