Ghost Rider

Two more live-action series based on Marvel characters have been announced. One is Ghost Rider, which obviously follows the popular character once played by Nicolas Cage in a pair of movies. But unlike the Cage movies, which followed the Johnny Blaze version of the title character, the TV series will follow the Robbie Reyes version of the character.

The other series is Helstrom based on the comic characters Daimon Hellstrom, also known as Son of Satan and Hellstorm, and his sister Satana, who will be called Ana on the show.

Ride with Norman Reedus

While it’s not really news, The Walking Dead and The Boondock Saints star Norman Reedus is grabbing some headlines for saying’s he’d be down for taking on a role that actually makes lots of sense for him: Johnny Blaze, better known as Ghost Rider. See what Reedus had to say below.

Reedus’s Walking Dead character, Daryl Dixon, often navigates the zombie apocalypse on a bike, and the actor even has a new reality series on AMC starting soon called Ride with Norman Reedus in which he, quite simply, travels around on a bike with friends in different locations (see a preview of the show below). So starring in a new Ghost Rider could be a perfect match.

Social Blend Podcast

Social BlendThe Social Blend podcast is back, and this week with a bit of a Geeks of Doom tang to it. Fellow Geeks of Doom contributor, and Associate Editor Hunter Camp aka MK2Fac3 joins us on the podcast this week – and we focus a lot on the latest details on Watchmen, Superman: The Man of Steel, Game of Thrones, and more.

Our first geek diversion in the show is looking at the new trailer for Iron Sky, which leads us into a whirlwind discussion of some of the work by Zack Snyder, including Sucker Punch and more. We debate the merits (or lack thereof) of the Before Watchmen prequel comic series from DC Comics.

Also we take a look at the latest news for Doctor Who Series 7, and the recent legal blues surrounding Ghost Rider.

Outside of our geek culture concentration, we also discuss some other news on the latest Social Blend, including Rick Santorum and the current Election news; and the recent passing of Whitney Houston.

Charitable Gift Ideas For Valentines Day

Today is Valentine’s Day and I, for one, really enjoy this holiday. I feel that any day that celebrates love is a good day. But, I know there are many people out there who hate it, including those who scream about “corporate greed!” and feel it’s a holiday created by greeting card companies to guilt men into spending their hard-earned cash on overpriced cards, chocolates, flowers, and jewelry. Well, I can’t argue with you there, as it is a big cash-in day for many industries (you Capitalists should love that).

So, for those of you who don’t want to give your money to corporate fat-cats or go along with the obligatory overpriced flowers and candy routine, then here’s some last-minute charitable gifts you can give — because let’s face it, if you’ve been going on all year about how Valentine’s Day sucks, then most likely haven’t gotten your sweetie a gift yet. But hey, just because you’re a non-conformist who hates sappy holidays doesn’t mean you can’t show the love, too, and not just for your partner, but for anyone in your life you care about. And, wouldn’t giving to charity on Valentine’s Day be a nice finger in the face to materialism? Yeah, go for it!

Here’s our list of 5 Charitable Last-Minute Gift Ideas For Valentine’s Day.

Ghost Rider by Gary Friedrich

Gary Friedrich, co-creator of the Marvel Comics character Ghost Rider, was ordered to pay the publishing company $17,000 this week in a counter-suit resulting from an intellectual property claim against the publisher.

This is a really messy case, that no matter how you look at it it’s going to be terrible and ugly, but before we get into all of that, here’s a little backstory on the case. Some of this information is cloudy, but it seems like the counter-suit has been won by Marvel, but they’re offering to drop that lawsuit if Friedrich settles to new arrangements made by the publishing company. Not everything is clear, and as of writing this article, I don’t have access to the court documents and all the information needed, but the details are truly irrelevant if you take the rest of the situation into consideration.
