Armond White’s Ever So Absurd Better-Than List Says ‘A Thousand Words’ Is Better Than ‘Argo’

A Thousand Words Image

The headline alone should acknowledge the absurdity that there is even a shred of evidence that proves such a thing, but film critic Armond White believes that A Thousand Words, Eddie Murphy’s flop – and I say that lightly – is indeed better than Ben Affleck’s critically acclaimed Argo.

White is notorious for obliterating highly acclaimed films and praising colossal failures, so seeing him make such comparisons isn’t a total shock. But if you don’t know who he is, well let’s just say that he thinks Resident Evil 5 director Paul W.S. Anderson is better The Master director Paul Thomas Anderson.

Talk about some busted buzz building.

For all intents and purposes, the premiere of Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance at this year’s Butt-Numb-A-Thon was supposed to get the geek oriented film in front of those who would almost blindly love it. However, it did anything but that.

But now, in the face of all that, we get a new trailer for the film, which doesn’t look as awful as those reviews would have one think. Watch the trailer here below.

Geeks of Doom vs. New York Comic Con 2011

Despite being a sequel to one of the worst films to come out of the recent golden age of comic book films, Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance has a ton going for it. Be it the creative team of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank) being behind the camera, or Nicolas Cage, Cirian Hinds, and Idris Elba being in front of it, this film has all the makings of an impressive step up.

And at this the 2011 New York Comic-Con this weekend, those in attendance at the film’s panel got to see not only on some great, if not all that new, footage, but also a really great panel featuring the two aforementioned filmmakers.

The first trailer for the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance has been released. You can check it out here below this article.

The film marks the first time star Nicolas Cage has played the iconic Marvel Comics hero since 2007’s Ghost Rider, Mark Steven Johnson’s much-derided and reviled cinematic adaptation of the character that overcame near-universal derision to become a modest box office hit. This time around Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the deranged masterminds of the Crank series as well as Gamer (and the screenwriters of last year’s atrocious Jonah Hex movie, but that film underwent so many rewrites and reshoots prior to its release that it’s doubtful much of their original script even made it into the final product), are assuming directing duties. Television writers Scott M. Gimple and Seth Hoffman (House, Flash Forward) make their feature screenwriting debut based on an original story by David S. Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins) that is rumored to have been taken from an unproduced script Goyer wrote for the first Ghost Rider film.

Ghost Rider

Thinking back on the level of excitement that people had for the promise of a live-action movie based on Ghost Rider will submerge you in a sudden depression knowing now what we do about how that film turned out. And it is with that depression drowning us that difficulties arise in finding any level of excitement for the proposed Ghost Rider 2 sequel that looks to be on the way.

For those of you few who do maintain a desire to see Ghost Rider 2 happen soon, there are now a bunch of new updates to behold. Collider recently spoke to producer Mike De Luca who had a handful of information for us, including what looks like it may become the official title: Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

The biggest of these news bits starts with directing: when asked about whether or not original director Mark Steven Johnson would come back, De Luca was replied that Johnson will not be returning to do the sequel and that a new director would be behind the camera. He even went as far as saying that David Goyer (Blade: Trinity, The Unborn) may be a possible candidate for director. Goyer would make sense because the script for the sequel is being developed around a 2001 Ghost Rider draft that the writer/director/producer scripted (Read: Sony To Use 9-Year-Old David Goyer Script For “˜Ghost Rider 2″²).
