BioShock Banner

There’s been no talk of the long-rumored BioShock movie for quite some time now, and for good reason…because the anticipated cinematic adaptation has been killed off.

The movie was first in the hands of Gore Verbinski, director of the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies and the upcoming Lone Ranger, who had plans to remain faithful to the adult-aimed game with a brutal, R-rated movie take on the story of Andrew Ryan and his dream, the underwater city of Rapture, which began as a government-less utopian heaven and quickly descended into a anarchic dystopian hell.

Watch Now: Ride For Justice With ‘The Lone Ranger’ In This Super Bowl Spot

The Lone Ranger Image

Hi-yo Silver! The first TV spot for Walt Disney Pictures’ summer western spectacular The Lone Ranger has premiered during tonight’s Super Bowl and now it is available online for those of us – myself included – who don’t watch football to enjoy.

You can watch the 90-second spot here below.

The studio and director Gore Verbinski definitely put together a humdinger of a teaser here with plenty of action, mythologizing, and even a touch of light-hearted banter from stars Johnny Depp (as Tonto) and Armie Hammer (as the Ranger). The whole “yes-no-yes-no” bit at the end gets tiresome though. At least the focus is on Hammer’s character this time instead of the footage being all “Lookee at Johnny Depp with a bird on his hand and crap” and runaway locomotives, and Depp doesn’t look to be taking this stuff completely seriously. That is a relief.

Hans Zimmer Replaces Jack White As Composer On ‘The Lone Ranger’

The Lone Ranger Image

It looks like Disney has hired a new composer to conduct the score for Gore Verbinski’s upcoming western actioner The Lone Ranger. We previously reported that White Stripes and The Raconteur’s frontman Jack White was set to make his film-composing debut by conducting the score for the film. It seemed like a perfect fit at the time, given White’s musical background. But somewhere in between that announcement and the release of the second trailer, White dropped out.

The Playlist discovered the change when they saw Hans Zimmer’s name attached as the composer instead of White’s. This isn’t the first time that Zimmer has conducted the score for a Verbinski film. Zimmer also conducted the score for all four Pirates of the Caribbean films and Rango has well.

The Lone Ranger Header

Having never seen the original TV show or heard any of the original radio broadcasts, I didn’t know what to expect from Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger. The film stars Johnny Depp as Native American Spirit Warrior, Tonto, who must join forces with John Reid (Armie Hammer), to battle the evil that is fueled by greed and corruption. So after all the delays, script rewrites, and reworking the budget, we finally got our first look at The Lone Ranger.

Check out the first trailer for the film here below.

A director interpreting a property that looks radically different from the original is nothing new. But for those who were worried about all the problems that affected this film, it looks like this trailer should put their nerves at ease.

The Lone Ranger Header

Apparently yesterday’s set of photos from Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger were just a tease. Aside from the traditional character photos, they featured some epic Southwest landscapes, and one large locomotive.

Now a new set of photos focusing on stars Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp have appeared online. While one of the photos does bare some resemblance to the first official photo release, the following ones tell us a very different story.

Check out these new photos plus the first official poster below.

The Lone Ranger

A lot of money was put into Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger, in fact, it inflated to $250 million. That astronomical number – for a western, no less – made a few fans and number-crunchers worried. But even after the budget inflation, script rewrites, and weather delays, Verbinski calmed some nerves by presenting a surprising teaser trailer at Comic-Con.

But for those who didn’t get a chance to see the footage, USA Today has released new images of Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, as Tonto and the Lone Ranger respectively, the Southwest landscape, and the infamous locomotive that caused the budget to go up so high.

Check out the images below.

‘The Lone Ranger’ Budget Inflates Back To $250 Million, Hits More Delays and Script Rewrites

The Lone Ranger

If you have been following the progress of Gore Verbinski’s adaptation of The Lone Ranger, you know of the difficulties it took for them to even get the cameras rolling. Pricey deals, a large budget, complications with the script, and big money already spent on John Carter (which didn’t end well) and Oz: The Great and Powerful – all of these things were contributing factors that led to Disney’s decision to halt the production of The Lone Ranger.

At first The Lone Ranger was budgeted at $250 million, which is quite large considering the film is a western. But once things were scaled down to $215 million – apparently CGI werewolves were taken out of the picture to reduce the budget of the film – the script was rewritten, and deals were reworked, the ball started rolling again, and production on the film finally started.

Now comes word that problems are arising once more, and the budget that was scaled down to $215, has once again inflated to what it started at in the beginning, a whooping $250 million. Also, mother nature is becoming a huge production problem. So much of a problem that production is behind schedule.

Directed by Gore Verbinski
Starring Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Ray Winstone, Timothy Olyphant, Ned Beatty
Paramount Pictures
Originally Released: March 4, 2011

While branded as an animated family movie, Rango is truly a thrilling Western and hysterical comedy all built into one. The animation is remarkable in its coupling with some memorable voice acting, supported by a solid script and iconic scenes. Rango is a film that must not be missed.

The movie tells the story of our title character, who begins as a household family pet with gigantic dreams of becoming the most revered and versatile actor of all time. A chance accident finds him lost and alone on a desert highway, from where he finds his way to the City Of Dirt. The plot then morphs into a Western motif at this point, where Rango discovers he may be able to play the role of a lifetime in this new city.
