Masters of Paradise City

The $9 t-shirt deal of the day over at Teefury today is a mash-up of Guns N Roses and He-Man called “Appetite For Eternia,” by artist joebot.

The sale at Teefury began at midnight EST (Wednesday, February 16, 2011) and will continue for 24 hours from then, and once it’s over, it’s gone from the site for good.

The design takes combines the He-Man cartoon characters with the classic Guns N Roses album cover for Appetite For Destruction. You might recognize the artwork from the time we feature the print (see previous article for discussion about the design).

The MP3 album deal of the day over at Amazon today is Slash, the self-titled solo album by the former Guns N Roses guitarist, for only $3.99.

The sale began earlier today and will probably last through tomorrow.

The album, which is Slash‘s first official solo record, contains 14 songs, and plenty of guest performances by people like Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie, Chris Cornell, Iggy Pop, Lemmy, Kid Rock, and many more.

The CD version is selling for $11.97 (33% off the regular price of $17.98). You can check out the review we did of Slash back when the album came out this past April.

Masters of Paradise CityTake me down to the Paradise City where… I HAVE THE POWER!

Oh how I love a good mash-up.

Here’s a new one from artist Joey Spiotto, who took his two favorite things from the 1980s and found a way to put them together: He-Man cartoon characters with the classic Guns N Roses album cover for Appetite For Destruction.

The 13 x 19-inch print, which is on watercolor paper, is available at the artist’s Etsy shop for $25 and is listed there as “Appetite For Eternia” (it’s called “Masters of Paradise City” on his blog).

You’ll recognize the album cover, which has a cross background with skull faces on each point and in the center. The original cover had versions of the five GNR band members; Spiotto’s version has five characters from He-Man. He-Man in the center; to the right of him is Man-At-Arms; Orko is at the bottom (no face at all); Skeletor at the very top (with his own skull face). I don’t know who that is on the left, I would think it’s Teela, but the headpiece and coloring are wrong. [Update: it’s Trap Jaw!] The top banner reads “Masters Of The Universe”; the bottom one reads “Appetite For Eternia.”

Slash album, self-titledSlash
Slash
Produced by Eric Valentine
Dik Hayd Records
Release date: April 6, 2010

Like it or not, top hat-wearing, chain-smoking, former drug-taking ex-alcoholic but permanent guitar god Slash will always be remembered for and compared to an album he released over 20 years ago with Guns n Roses. Appetite For Destruction is one of the greatest albums of all time. It stills sounds as fresh to me as the first time I heard it, even after many years and hundreds of listens. Since Appetite thrust the sweaty, leather-covered loins of Guns n Roses into public view, Saul ‘Slash’ Hudson has released four more albums with GnR, two with Slash’s Snakepit, two with Velvet Revolver, and now comes album number ten, simply titled: Slash.

The album Slash is guitarist Slash’s first solo album. Complicated sentences aside, this is an album that boasts an array of rock gods who sing, shriek, or play over music written by Slash: Lemmy, Dave Grohl, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop to name but a few. There are also some not so godlike guests, and one I had never heard of (turns out Adam Levine is the singer of Maroon 5. Thanks Google!).

A sweet deal in Amazon’s today’s $5 MP3 album sale is The Rocky Horror Picture Show – Original Soundtrack. If you dug the movie, you undoubtedly loved the music, so getting it all for only five bucks is an amazing score. If you’re not familiar with the film (:::gasp:::) I implore you to get the DVD immediately , it’s only $9.99. Hey, it’s only like the greatest science fiction, horror, B-movie rock musical ever made [slut].

In other MP3 album deals, Metallica‘s Death Magnetic is still only $5, while their 1988 album …And Justice For All — their first full-length effort with bassist Jason Newsted and it happens to be fucking brilliant — is now only $6.99.

For all you youngsters out there hearing all this noise about some Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy business and soda and what not, here’s all you need to know: There once was a hard rock band called Guns N Roses and they kicked ass. Wanna hear their stuff? Then get the MP3 version of their Greatest Hits for $7.99.

Since I’m traumatized from having to listen to four minutes of Coldplay earlier this evening, I’ve been recovering with some of my favorite tunes, you know, to purify my rock and roll soul. Here’s some tunes I listened to (get ’em for 99 cents each if you feel so inclined) …
