Paul Feig to direct Play-Doh film

Movies based on toy brands and board games isn’t anything new. Hasbro’s Transformers, Battleship, Clue, and Ouija have all been adapted for the big screen. Last year, we saw Warner Bros launch their LEGO film franchise with The LEGO Movie, which now has a sequel and three spinoffs in the works. Now we are about to head back to the toy box as it has been announced that there will be a Play-Doh movie from 20th Century Fox film. And it will be directed by none other than Paul Feig (Bridesmaids).

Deadline reports that Fox has just sealed a deal with Hasbro for the live-action film based on the molding toy. Hasbro will produce with Chernin Entertainment and Feig’s Feigco banner.

Indominus Rex Tease Promo

Last month, we saw the tiniest sneak peek at the Indominus Rex, the terrifying new genetically engineered hybrid dinosaur making its big-screen debut in this summer’s Jurassic World. The film’s recent Super Bowl Spot also gave a glimpse at the new big baddie, which was created in the film by Hammond Creation Lab for the Jurassic Word theme park to be the most frightening dinosaur ever displayed.

On Saturday at the NY Toy Fair, Hasbro revealed their Jurassic World toy line, which included the first look at their new battery-operated Indominus Rex figure. Check out the photos here below, provided by Hasbro, of the new Indominus Rex, as well as all their Jurassic World toys, including figures, battle sets, and more for raptors like tyrannosaurus rex, stegasaurus, dilophosaurus, ceratosaurus, and others to be seen in the film. (Updated with video.)

Monopoly 80th Anniversary US Edition

Looks like some lucky folks in France who purchase a brand new Monopoly set might get a lot more than they bargained for. During celebrating of the legendary board game’s 80th anniversary this year, 80 sets that have been produced in France will have real Euro currency inside, according to The Washington Post. The cool total comes to 20,580 Euros, or about $23,000. Not bad for a $15 dollar investment (the general retail price of the game).

All throughout the year, there will be celebrations at hand for the real estate made easy game, which was originally released by Parker Brothers in 1935 and which quickly became a national phenomenon, and eventually, a global phenomenon, which it currently is. Through the decades since its introduction to the gaming market, there have been countless versions which span almost every language known to man, and also countless versions which have highlighted a particular product or brand, as in The Beatles, Spongebob, Family Guy, Star Wars, The Walking Dead and even focusing custom versions on a particular city like New York or Los Angeles. All told, the phenomenology of Monopoly continues to baffle pundits and delights audiences and new generations with each passing year.

Play-Doh Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain Playset

As a child, I played with my share of Play-Doh, the wildly popular, colorful modeling clay used for both fun and education. As an adult, I’ve gifted a ton of the stuff to my hordes of godchildren, nieces, and nephews. These days, there’s all kinds of variations of the modeling compound with many accessories, playsets, and other tools to accompany it.

But, let’s talk about one of those tools – one that appeared to be more dildo than Play-Doh. Yes, that’s right, I said dildo, as an “extruder tool” that comes with the Play-Doh Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain Playset is, in fact, shaped like a penis. And when you squeeze the Play-Doh out of it to make the “icing,” well, you can imagine what that looks like, right?

Dungeons and Dragons

As I mentioned last week, there’s a lot going on in the world of Dungeons & Dragons this summer. Not the least of which is their new logo! And though I only briefly mentioned it in my article, more information has been made available that you might find interesting.

The new logo is cool; I like the way each letter has a spike (or two) coming off of it. Makes it seem more diabolical, I suppose. But the big news rests on the little symbol between the words, the ampersand. It is this small piece of the logo that has the largest impact. Polarizing fans the world over, this logogram was designed by Glitschka Studios at the behest of Hasbro. But what they created was just the start; Hasbro altered the ampersand by giving it more depth through a more artistic rendering. The final addition is the change of coloration, turning a flat single colored item into a chromed multidimensional version.
