Rush Headlines The 2013 Class Of Inductees In The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame (Finally!)

Rush

A major step in the right direction of finally showcasing music groups that aren’t of the extreme norm or voted in by backslapping politics has finally come to fruition in Cleveland, Ohio today as Rush, the Canadian trio whose progressive rock sounds have been thrilling and tantalizing generations of audiences mostly on cult fringes since their debut album in 1974, has finally have been inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

No other band in the entire history of the hall has sported the kind of controversy and division like Rush has in terms of entry to the Hall. For the most part, Rush has been anything but critically lauded throughout its tenure as a band, which is still promoting and touring its latest album Clockwork Angels, their 19th studio release. Fans, however, have seen this differently, scoffing at pseudo-highbrow critics who they pretty much have ascertained have no clue what they are talking about when it comes to the amazing, gymnastically musical elasticity of the sounds and styles of Rush.

ABC News reports that along with Rush, the class of 2013 includes Academy Award-winning singer/songwriter Randy Newman; original purveyors of hip hop Public Enemy; the late disco queen Donna Summer, who died earlier this year; the Wilson sisters-led hard rocking ensemble Heart; and “Born Under A Bad Sign” blues guitarist Albert King. Quite an eclectic mix of artists for sure.

Ho, ho, ho, and a bottle of Red Bull. It’s THAT time of the year again and we here at Doom HQ have been busier than migrating elves in Middle Earth cultivating this list of the best books and eBooks of 2012. See below for our Holiday Geek Gift Guide 2012: Books & eBooks.

It seems that 2012 was a good year for rock ‘n’ roll memoir/biography/holy-shit-I-lived-through-that/hey-we’re-still-relevant books because we’ve got a fairly long list of ’em for people like your cousin Phil who still wears that bogus KISS jersey he bought in the parking lot at NJ’s Brendan Byrne Arena back in 1982. And there’s lots more geeky awesome gift books in our annual Holiday Geek Gift Guide, including several movie and TV tie-ins; Star Trek Federation: The First 150 Years, which is so hot it made it onto this year’s list twice; the Star Trek: The Klingon Bird-Of-Prey Owners’ Workshop Manual, an obvious essential for all Bird-Of-Prey owners; picks for the Star Wars, Firefly, and The Avengers fans in your life; a bunch of urban fantasy selections, and a pick from the dudes over at Wizards of the Coast.

The GoD List: Comics For November 2, 2011

GoD List Banner

Each and every week “From the timeline 1690” MK2Fac3 and “12th Level Vice President In His D&D Game” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of November 2, 2011. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

In This week’s The GoD List, the Hunter Camp from the normal Earth timeline is off reading Casanova: Luxuria, so replacing him this week is none other than the Hunter Camp of Timeline 1690, and while some might call me an “evil” version, I see it as nothing of the sort. You see, I like some of the finer things in comics. You won’t be seeing any DC Comics or professional wrestling references on the list this week, you see, because Timeline 1690 Hunter only reads more obscure comic titles. And while you’ll get your normal Marvel and GI Joe fare from Henchman21, things may seem a little skewed this week. Think you know how this list will end? I doubt it. Continue on with this week’s GoD List.
