A&E Networks announced some of the upcoming new shows for all of their channels, and it promises to be an exciting television season for the ever-expanding network. Already a force to be reckoned with such hits as Vikings and Pawn Stars on The History Channel, Bates Motel and Duck Dynasty on A&E, and Devious Maids and The Lizzie Borden Chronicles on Lifetime, the network is now set to add Damien, based on the horror movie The Omen, on A&E, and a reimagining of Roots premiering on three channels at once – A&E, Lifetime, and The History Channel. black-metal-iconic

I am in the process of transitioning all of the columns from my personal blog over to Geeks Of Doom. I already started with Thrashback Thursday, so now it’s time for Black Metal Friday. For this column, I usually spotlight a band video or, more often, an audio link, since many black metal artists shy away from making videos.

For my first installment on GoD, I have decided to share with you all a fantastic and riveting documentary on Scandinavian black metal. Black Metal Satanica is a very thorough examination of the genre. For anyone interested in knowing more about the subject, this is an excellent place to start! Watch the full documentary here below.

Princesses Behaving Badly by Linda Rodriguez McRobbiePrincesses Behaving Badly
Real Stories from History Without the Fairy-Tale Endings
Hardcover | Kindle Edition
Written by Linda Rodriguez McRobbie
Quirk Books
Release Date: November 19, 2013

Most people find history dry and boring, suffering through the classes in school because it was required. But there are a few of us that know that history tells the best stories. Princesses Behaving Badly: Real Stories from History Without the Fairy-Tale Endings is proof of this. Disney likes to make everything all cute and pretty but in reality the truth is a far cry from that. The past contains a multitude of ladies who weren’t content to sit on the sidelines, they got up and forged their own destinies. And there were no helpful animals or fairy godmothers backing them up.

Containing short biographies of over thirty women from days gone by, this book is sectioned into seven parts. First off, we have the warriors. Loaded with tales of death and destruction, we learn how these ladies were the match for the men of their day in both physical prowess and warfare. Though many didn’t start off with that intention, circumstances led them to it. One became a pirate, another a general. One even defended her homeland with her infant son in tow!

March, Book OneMarch, Book One
Trade Paperback | Kindle Edition
Written by Congressman John Lewis and Andrew Aydin
Art by Nate Powell
Top Shelf Productions
Release Date: August 13, 2013
Cover Price: $14.95

Democratic Congressman John Lewis is one of the last true American heroes we have still living. As congressman for Georgia’s 5th district since 1987, Lewis has served the people of his state with great strength and integrity. One of Congress’ staunchest liberal members, Lewis supported gay rights and universal health care, came out in opposition to the first Iraq War in 1991 and the North American Free Trade Agreement, and was the first member of the House of Representatives to call for the impeachment of President George W. Bush over his warrant-less wiretapping of U.S. citizens.

Prior to the beginning of his political career, Lewis was one of the most integral figures in the Civil Rights Movement. He was the youngest member of the “Big Six” group of black leaders that worked tirelessly to bring about great change in the American societal and political structure that had been oppressing African-Americans for centuries. One of the key moments in the history of the movement was the August 28, 1963, March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom that took place in our nation’s capital, culminating in Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech before the Lincoln Memorial.

Congressman Lewis has teamed up with Top Shelf Productions for March, a trilogy of graphic novels documenting his lifelong role in the Civil Rights Movement.
