A review of Deadpool 2 is an exercise in futility. You already know if you’re going to like it or not, the only real question is “how much?” You know you’ll laugh, again though, “how much?” I don’t want to spoil any of the jokes, quotes, or guest appearances, so what exactly do I write in this review??? I’ll try to answer the above mentioned questions in the most Deadpool way I can: staring at camera, winking… “A f*ck lot” and “Laughed till I peed blood.” Ok… maximum effort!

Deadpool 2 once again stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, the 4th wall-breaking, merc with the mouth who spends his days tracking and brutally slaying an international array of baddies and cracking jokes on Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds’ filmography, and really all superhero movie conventions. This time, however, after an early dose of reality, Wade realizes he may in fact have to accept certain conventions, amongst these, a team-up with the X-Men.

‘Dundee’ Trailers We Wanted To Be Real Are Tourism Ads, Because Of Course They Are

Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home

We pretty much knew that the trailers for the Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home “movie” (here here, and here) were fake and actually ads for Australian tourism. And yet, we wanted to believe that somehow it would become a real film. And can you blame us? I mean, Danny McBride playing the estranged American son of the Australian legend, Crocodile Dundee. And in the trailers that have been released so far, we’ve seen Chris Hemsworth, Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Isla Fisher, Ruby Rose, Luke Hemsworth,, and more trick us in to believing that this was a real movie… or at least get us to want to visit Australia.

But now, comes the terribly sad news: There is no Dundee movie. But if you are thinking about going to Australia any time soon, well, then this ad might be just the thing to get you to buy a plane ticket. Check out the latest ad here below, which aired during last night’s Super Bowl.

Margot Robbie in Dundee

For the past two weeks, the Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home trailers have only featured Danny McBride, Chris Hemsworth, and Hugh Jackman. McBride, who plays the title character, is the “estranged son” of the legendary Crocodile Dundee, although he lacks the spirit of the Outback, as seen in his broken Australian accent and inability to remove the water buffalo with his “Outback Powers.” Last week, Jackman “joined” the cast of this otherwise fake film that appears to be nothing more than a Super Bowl ad to promote Australian tourism.

Now a full-length trailer has appeared, showing more from the fake movie. And as you might have expected, it features an all-star Australian cast including Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Isla Fisher, Ruby Rose, Luke Hemsworth, and more. Check out the trailer below.

Hugh Jackman Dundee

Last week, a series of trailers and clips promoting Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home debuted. Though trailers for reboots are not out of the ordinary, it’s who they chose to star as the title character that had quite a few people vexed. It was Danny McBride who would say Crocodile Dundee’s signature phrase: “That’s not a knife. Now that’s a knife.” Many couldn’t take the trailer seriously considering McBride said it in such a broken Australian accent. However, the trailer was cut in such a way, it almost seemed like it was real.

Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman

It’s not a con or a swindle, it’s all about putting on a show. And that’s what Hugh Jackman is going to do in the musically-inspired film The Greatest Showman, where he plays P.T. Barnum, the nearly down-and-out title character who not only finds fame in gathering extraordinary people to play at his show, but gives them a sense of hope as well. Of course, there are other subplots that will move the film.

Now Fox has released a brand new trailer that sheds some light on that sense of hope plus some of the other struggles that Barnum will have to go through to achieve his goal of giving his family everything they could have ever wanted. Check out the latest trailer here below.

Honest Trailers Logan

Today the gang at Screen Junkies celebrate their 200th episode of Honest Trailers, and what better way, than with one of the best films of 2017 thus far, Logan. Logan is technically part of Fox’s X-Men universe, but feels so much grittier and different than any of the previous films; less characters, less CGI, and more “stab-a-guy-through-the-head-while-cursing”… yeah, it’s different. “They didn’t even put X-Men or Wolverine in the title!”

Check out the Honest Trailer below.

Why ‘Logan’ Was The Perfect X-Men Epilogue and More Than A Comic Book Movie

Logan Wolverine movie

For me, this is a hard article to write. What was going to be simply a slightly biased glowing review of the new Wolverine film Logan became something more in my mind. Of course I loved the movie and highly recommend seeing it, but the reasoning for that was something I felt deserved a more little more exposition.

A little background on my love of the Wolverine character: The first comic book I bought with my own allowance was a Wolverine comic. I grew up as a teen in the 90s and for me, the X-Men cartoon on Fox was a main staple of my Saturday mornings. It was why I got up early. Out of all the teenage mutant characters to identify with as a teenager, the one that was my favorite was of course Wolverine. He was an anti-hero for anti-heroes. Moody, irritable, hairy… all good reasons for me to love the guy, but not to mention that he was nearly unstoppable. Wolverine was one of the few characters universally feared it seemed. I wanted to be that guy. Villain and hero alike respected Logan. There is little to wonder why he became the biggest part of the X-Men universe. So back to my point. With the film Logan, it isn’t just director James Mangold honoring the end of Hugh Jackman‘s portrayal of Weapon X. No, Mangold is saying goodbye to the entire X-Men universe from 2000.

Logan Wolverine movie

Logan
Written by Scott Frank, James Mangold, Michael Green
Directed by James Mangold
Starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant
20th Century Fox
Release date: March 3, 2017

For some it’s Batman, for other’s Spider-Man. For me, it’s always been Wolverine. For more than two-thirds of my life, the crazed Canadian with berserker rage, healing powers, and adamantium-coated claws has been MY hero. I’m a die-hard fan of the University of Michigan for no other reason than their team name. I am constantly drawn to anti-hero characters in both film and literature. And I have a penchant for growing scruffy beards and calling people “bub”… okay, that last part is a stretch, I called my grandmother “Bub.” I am such a Wolverine fan, that I convinced myself that X-Men Origins: Wolverine was good the first time I saw it. Talk about denial! Last night, I took my son and nephew to see Logan, a late show on an opening Friday. Me, there like a fanboy wearing my Wolverine #1 comic book t-shirt. All I can say is that when your expectations for a film are at a fever pitch, and the film not only lives up to, but surpasses them, it is a truly special feeling.

‘Logan’s Dark Tone Worried 20th Century Fox Execs

Wolverine Logan

At some point, the X-Men franchise needed to take a gamble. On the surface, Deadpool was risky. But the film turned out to be such a huge success, it gave Twentieth Century Fox the confidence they needed to approve of James Mangold‘s Logan, the first R-rated Wolverine film to be released theatrically. Releasing a third installment of the Wolverine franchise was always a part of the studio’s plan. So in order to give Hugh Jackman a proper send-off, Mangold wanted the film to be deeply personal. Based on what we have seen throughout the marketing campaign, it looks like he accomplished that goal.

But that isn’t to say that the new direction didn’t worry studio execs. In fact, some were concerned about the film’s tonal shift. More on the story below.
