Jason Isaacs in Event Horizon

We already know that the main character of the new Star Trek TV series, titled Star Trek: Discovery, will not be a captain. At least not to start. Instead, the main character will be a lieutenant commander played by The Walking Dead star Sonequa Martin-Green.

But the starship Discovery does still need a captain, and CBS has found the actor to play him. It’s being reported that Jason Isaacs has joined the cast of the show, and will play a character named Captain Lorca.

Movie Review: A Cure For Wellness

A Cure For Wellness
Director: Gore Verbinski
Screenwriter: Justin Haythe
Cast: Dane DeHaan, Jason Isaacs, Mia Goth
Distributor: 20th Century Fox
Rated R | 146 Minutes
Release Date: February 17, 2017

In Richard Fleischer’s 1973 dystopian sci-fi film Soylent Green, Charlton Heston plays an NYPD detective investigating the murder of a wealthy CEO. The investigation leads him to uncover the truth about Soylent Green, a food ration advertised to contain “high-energy plankton.” It turns out the miracle product is made of people. Human corpses are delivered to a disposal center where they are processed and converted into the very thing that keeps us alive.

If the big question behind Fleischer’s film is “What are we really eating?” then A Cure For Wellness asks, “What are we really taking?” From Gore Verbinski (The Ring, the Pirates of the Caribbean series), A Cure For Wellness is a mind-bending psychological thriller with exquisite but unsettling imagery.

Star Wars Rebels
The Complete Season 1
Blu-ray | DVD
Created by Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, Carrie Beck
Starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Taylor Gray, Vanessa Marshall, Tiya Sircar, Steve Blum, David Oyelowo, Jason Isaacs
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
Release date: September 1, 2015

As a life-long Star Wars fan, I’ve always kept my ear to the ground for anything new in the universe, especially during those post-Jedi drought years. I would take anything I could get, even an Ewok adventure, if it meant more Star Wars and I devoured the offerings of the Expanded Universe. But, as with many fans like me, I became jaded and partially disinterested after the disappointing prequel films. While the Clone Wars animated series helped reinvigorate my love of the franchise and J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens feature film has given me hope that Star Wars can be restored to its former glory, I didn’t know what to expect of Star Wars Rebels, a new CGI-animated series airing on Disney XD.

After Disney acquired Lucasfilm, the company eventually revealed that all their new Star Wars projects — movies, TV show, books, video games, you name it — would be considered “canon,” with Rebels to be the first new on-screen project to meet this qualification. That means that everything that happens in Rebels would be considered official, sanctioned, true, untouchable, unchangeable — that’s a huge deal.

Let me just put it out there right up front: Star Wars Rebels is awesome and I love it.

Keanu Reeves in John Wick

People keep asking if I’m back. Yeah, I’m thinking, I’m back.

The first trailer for John Wick, the upcoming action flick starring Keanu Reeves, has been released.

You can watch it here below

In this new film from Lionsgate, Reeves stars as John Wick, a former hitman who’s now the target of a crime boss. The kicker? His would-be assassin is an old friend. You can see from the trailer that Wick was no ordinary hitman and that having a hit put on him for a change has “reactivated” his old killer instincts.

I love Pixar movies. And I don’t just mean that loosely; I mean I truly and honestly LOVE Pixar movies. From that first wide-eyed viewing of Toy Story back in 1995 to today, they’ve released some of the best (and some of my own personal favorite) movies of all time.

Even my least favorite Pixar movie—2006’s Cars—is a movie I still very much enjoy, despite the fact that I went in thinking I wouldn’t be a fan (shame on me for thinking such things about a Pixar flick). That’s just how good they are. And so you can imagine my and many, many others’ surprise when a veritable landslide of negative feedback started flowing in upon the release of their latest feature, Cars 2.

Could it be so? Could there really be a…bad *gulps* Pixar movie? Or was this just a case of constant perfection leading people to go out of their way to seek out imperfections and declare failure no matter how good or bad the actual film was?
