Nine Lives

The first trailer for Nine Lives has just arrived. The comedy stars Kevin Spacey as Tom Brand, an outlandish billionaire workaholic who is disconnected from his family. He attempts to make his adorable daughter happy by giving her the one thing he hates the most: a cat. Before Tom can give his gift to his daughter, he gets into an accident, and when he awakens, he discovers that his consciousness is trapped inside a cat.

It sounds too crazy to be true, but it is an actual film from Men In Black director Barry Sonnenfeld. In fact, we reported on the news almost a year ago, and now we are getting our first look at Nine Lives, which Sonnenfeld describes as a “funny, emotional, commercial comedy.” Check out the first trailer below.

Brandon Lee in The Crow

Last week, Relativity was forced to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy after being hit with lawsuits and missing numerous payments. The studio was forced to lay off 75 of its 350 employees on staff, and now their troubles are leaking over to their films. Though they will release Masterminds and Kidnap, the future of their other films in pre-production is unknown, and will most likely be put on hold or sold to other studios and producers, until Relativity can figure a way out of their mess. One of the biggest films that was in pre-production was experiencing a bit of trouble itself. According to new reports, pre-production on The Crow reboot is now stalled.

Disney In Depth: Movie Review: The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Disney In Depth banner

A most peculiar drama, indeed. As I watched The Odd Life of Timothy Green I kept thinking of how rare it is to find a touching, genuine piece of film that literally grows on you. Nothing especially grand in scale, just a simple fantasy set in reality. Director Peter Hedges has fashioned a sweet tale with sensibility, one that despite inspiring some eye-rolling and struggling to maintain a cohesive structure, manages to breathe kindness and spirit.

Disney has surely expanded its range in films in recent years, in terms of tone, and I suppose soon enough one would arrive in the form of a married couple who cannot have a child. Jim and Cindy Green, played with warmth by the duo of Joel Edgerton (Warrior) and Alias star Jennifer Garner, have almost given up hope on having a child of their very own. In a flash-forward scene toward the opening, the pair shares with an adoption agency of why they are suitable parents. They tell their miraculous story, of their short and certainly odd experience with a 10-year-old boy who enters their lives.

Arthur Blu-rayArthur
Blu-ray | DVD | On Demand
Directed by Jason Winer
Starring Russell Brand, Helen Mirren, Greta Gerwig, Jennifer Garner, Geraldine James, Luis Guzmán
Warner Bros. Home Video
Release Date: July 15, 2011

Arthur, stars Russell Brand as the title character who’s a rich, alcoholic, heir to a business empire. Through his life, Arthur has squandered his fortune on space suits, a magnetic floating bed, telephone booth aquariums, movie memorabilia, specifically movie cars, and lots and lots of alcohol. After Arthur gets arrested for wrecking the Batmobile from Batman and Robin, Arthur’s mother (Geraldine James), the keeper of the family fortune, gives him an ultimatum: either straighten up and get his life together by marrying Susan Johnson (Jennifer Garner), or lose his inheritance. The only problem, Arthur has fallen in love Naomi (Greta Gerwig), a simple woman from Queens. Will Arthur give up everything for the woman he loves? Or will he sacrifice the one he loves for the almighty dollar? You can only find out by watching the movie.

Or by thinking logically if you’ve seen any movie that has this plot, which I’m sure you have since 80 percent of movies in existence all have this premise, according to Hunter Camp’s False Movie Facts. And that’s the main problem with the film.

Blake Lively Grabs Female Lead In ‘Green Lantern’ With Ryan Reynolds

Lantern

Last month, Latino Review received a scoop that casting for the female lead in the Green Lantern movie had come down to five actresses, and those names were Eva Green, Kerri Russell, Diane Kruger, Blake Lively, and Jennifer Garner. At first glance, Miss Lively would have probably been considered the underdog of the bunch, but it is now being reported that the Gossip Girl star has in fact been cast in the role of Carol Ferris, officially landing her the biggest role of her career and her first chance to really break out as a star. Up to this point, Lively had done work in shows and movies that had young female demographics, so if she nails this, you will be seeing a whole lot more of her in the future.

Ferris becomes the love interest of Hal Jordan after hiring the pilot to work at her father’s aerospace company, which she runs. As we know, Ryan Reynolds will be playing the role of Hal Jordan, who eventually goes on to become the Green Lantern, one of an elite few who wield a special power ring that gives them unique abilities. This of course is the DC Comics adventure that Reynolds is running parallel to his Marvel adventure with Deadpool.
