Shang-Chi

Marvel Studios has confirmed that they will be working on a film adaptation of Shang-Chi, their first Asian-led superhero film. Furthermore, they want to have an Asian director behind the lens for it.

The news came before the release of the latest trailer for Captain Marvel, so, it was a pretty good day for Marvel Studios and the #RepresentationMatters movement. More on the report, below.

Judge Dredd was created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra back in 1977 for 2000 AD, the premiere British sci-fi and fantasy comic anthology magazine. Dredd has continued to be published by 2000 AD on a weekly basis since the character first appeared. It has been re-collected and distributed by such companies as Eagle Comics and Fleetway/Quality Comics. It was also a part of DC Comics’ lineup at one point in time. Now Judge Dredd is being published by an American company, IDW Publishing, as well as the continued stories in 2000 AD. IDW will go with the continuity already set by 2000 AD instead of trying to create their own. This is evident in the first issue of this newly launched series.

Guardians of the Galaxy

The Avengers is behind us now, and Marvel Studios is paving the way for Phase Two by releasing Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World next year. While the events of the respective films will have an affect on what we will see in Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers 2, not much has been heard of that big purple raisin faced villain called Thanos.

Up until now, Thanos’ appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers 2 has been nothing but a rumor. But now that James Gunn has been named director of Guardians, we are getting a few more details about the film itself. Details that seem to confirm that Thanos will be the villain in both films.

Batman 202 by Andy Kubert

On Friday, The Dark Knight Rises, the latest and last Batman film in Christopher Nolan’s epic trilogy, will finally be upon us. So, it’s natural for loads of sites to provide you with “5 Batman Comics To Get You Pumped For The Dark Knight Rises!” But where we differ is, we’re taking a more scholarly approach to these Batman comics. We’ve already talked about The Evolution Of Batman In Popular Culture and given you Batman 101: A Beginner’s Guide To The Dark Knight, which gave you several great places to start reading Batman comics that aren’t heavily drenched in continuity and are some of the more simple stories that The Dark Knight has to offer.

With Batman 202: Intermediate Reading For The Caped Crusader, however, we’re taking a look at some more books that offer a little bit more than just a basic starting point. These books are all great, but they’re also a little more complicated than I would suggest just starting off. This list is here to provide you with the next step into becoming a Batman scholar, and requires a little more of the reader.

Week of Geek: San Diego Comic Con International 2010

Back in April the bombshell news making rounds was that none other than god of geek Joss Whedon would be bringing all that Marvel Studios had built together by directing The Avengers.

At the time, this seemed like a done deal even though Whedon was technically only in “final negotiations” for the job. After this many seemed to think it wasn’t as done as it first sounded, leaving us all to wonder whether Joss was really the man for the job.

Today during the Visionaries panel featuring Whedon and Star Trek director J.J. Abrams, Whedon decided to add a little finality to it all. The man behind Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Dollhouse came out and said “It’s not an official thing, I think because Marvel couldn’t afford a press release. So can we make that an official thing? I’m directing The Avengers.”
