‘Hotel Artemis’ Red Band Trailer: Killers, Bank Robbers, An Angry Orderly, and Jeff Goldblum

Hotel Artemis

Sure, Hotel Artemis may have the same aesthetics as a John Wick – the exclusivity, the rules of the hospital, the high-priced killers – but it still looks like a whole lot of fun.

There is a new red band trailer for the film that ups the violence and bad language. But I can’t be sure it will be enough to get out of John Wick‘s shadow. If anything the electric cast should be enough to get us interested in watching it. Check out the trailer below.

Retro Movie Review: ‘Taxi Driver’ 40th Anniversary Screening – Fathom Events

Taxi Driver Robert De Niro

Fathoms Events and Sony Pictures presents a chance to see one of the greatest and craziest films of all time, Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver in U.S. theaters again this week. Celebrating the film’s 40th anniversary, Taxi Driver drives back to cinemas for only one more day, Wednesday, October 19th. I got a chance to go to a showing on Sunday in New York City. I’d argue the real star of the film is New York City itself. The city pulses throughout; the filth and degradation of the 1970s feels hundreds of years removed, not a mere 40.

Taxi Driver features the definition of “all-star cast,” headlined by Oscar-winner Robert De Niro as the film’s notorious anti-hero Travis Bickle. Joining him are future two-time Oscar-winner Jodie Foster, who was 14 when the movie debuted in 1976. Cybill Shepherd, Albert Brooks, Peter Boyle, and Harvey Keitel round out the cast. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture, Actor (De Niro), Supporting Actress (Foster), and Score (the amazing Bernard Herrmann).

Taxi Driver Robert De Niro

Martin Scorsese‘s Taxi Driver is coming back to the big screen for a limited run in honor of the film’s 40th anniversary.

In 1976, Scorsese introduced us to Vietnam veteran Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro), a deranged New York City cabbie who enjoyed pornographic films, stalking political candidates, and had a penchant for blondes. The film was gritty, intense, and violent, and Bickle became an anti-hero for the post-Nixon era. It garnered four Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor (Robert De Niro), Best Supporting Actress (Jodie Foster), and Best Score (Bernard Herrmann). The film was written by Paul Schrader, the first of his three collaborations with the acclaimed Oscar-winning director. Thanks to Fathom Events & Sony Pictures Entertainment, Taxi Driver is returning to U.S. theaters for two days only this October in preparation for its two-disc 40th anniversary edition Blu-Ray release on November 8, 2016.

Martin Scorsese’s ‘Taxi Driver’ Turns 40

Taxi Driver

Taxi Driver, the pressure cooker of a film about one man’s lonely journey into a nether region of metaphoric and literal hell by way of a society that doesn’t even want to begin to understand him, celebrated its 40th anniversary over the weekend, opening in New York City on Feb 7th, 1976 and opening in a wide release on February 8th.

The film, an early masterpiece by director Martin Scorsese, who was coming off twin successes with Mean Streets and Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore respectively, is a stark, brutal, dark, and pulsing look into the open wound that was New York City circa 1975. During that turbulent and gritty time, the city was almost limping on legs from a bygone era that started to erode and disintegrate by the time the film was made. On cracked concrete streets, with asphalt that seemed to emit snakelike steam from its sewers could only a film like this be born. Taxi Driver stands as a true testament to the blood, sweat, and tears put forth by the creative triumvirate of Scorsese, writer Paul Schrader, and the lead actor who played one Travis Bickle, Robert De Niro, was already a legend even then when the cameras started rolling as production commenced.

Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs

The Silence of the Lambs is a classic, and went on to win five Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor (Anthony Hopkins), Best Actress (Jodie Foster), Best Director (Jonathan Demme), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Ted Tally).

One of the most crucial scenes in the movie is when Hopkins’ Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Foster’s Clarice Starling meet for the very first time. It’s an all-time great scene. But who walked away from that scene with the upper hand?

A new video breaks down the scene, and reveals who in fact “won” that first meeting, so to speak. You can check it out below.

Elysium Film PosterElysium
Director: Neill Blomkamp
Screenwriter: Neill Blomkamp
Cast: Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, Wagner Moura, William Fichtner
Sony Pictures | TriStar Pictures
Rated R | 109 Minutes
Release Date: August 9, 2013

In the year 2154, only two classes of people exist: the global elite, who live on a high-tech space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on the overpopulated, diseased “Third World slum” Earth has become.

“Illegals” risk their lives to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, in desperate need of the state-of-the-art medical technology available on Elysium – but Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve Elysium citizens’ luxurious lifestyle.

After an industrial accident leaves him with radioactive poisoning, 36-year-old factory-worker and ex-con Max DeCosta (Matt Damon) has only five days to get from the ruins of Los Angeles to Elysium in order to be cured. Max is outfitted with a powerful exoskeleton and kidnaps a wealthy businessman (William Fichtner) in order to steal his identity and hijack his way into Elysium. If he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but the poor, huddled masses on Earth as well.

‘Elysium’ Trailer: They Will Hunt You To The Edge Of The Earth

Elysium Header Image

The first trailer for Neil Blomkamp‘s Elysium has just hit the web, and it’s everything you imagined it would be. The film is a follow up to his last sci-fi indie hit District 9. Just like his last film, Elysium puts a sci-fi spin on the social issues that faces us today. Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, and more star in this gritty and fantastic looking sci-fi film.

The Geeks of Doom team saw a couple of selected scenes during last year’s San Diego Comic-Con and yesterday, Sony offered a couple of journalists a glimpse of a more polished product plus an advanced look at this trailer. Based on the looks of it, we can see there will be a clash between two very distant social classes: the rich who live in a luxurious lifestyle orbiting on the heavens, and the poor who live in the slums that cover the entire Earth.

Hit the jump to see the brand new trailer.
