Wait, What? A Sequel To ‘Backdraft’ Is On The Way, and There’s A Trailer To Prove It

Backdraft 2

It was announced a little while back that a sequel to Ron Howard’s 1991 firefighter drama Backdraft was on the way. But I for one didn’t catch that particular news bit. It’s something that actually sounds like a joke considering how long ago the first movie came out, but according to the calendar we’re still a few weeks from April Fools’ Day.

It’s no joke. Backdraft 2 is indeed on the way. And a trailer has been released to prove its existence, which can be found below. It’s not a completely unrelated movie just using the title to get some more attention, either. This is a direct sequel, which includes original stars William Baldwin and Donald Sutherland reprising their roles.

Hannibal
Season 3 Episode 7 “Digestivo”
Directed by Adam Kane
Written by Steve Lightfoot
Created by Bryan Fuller
Starring Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, Caroline Dhavernas, Gillian Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Joe Anderson, Tao Okamoto and Katharine Isabelle
NBC
Air date: Saturday, July 18th, 2015, 10pm

Hannibal has smartly avoided the trap some shows fall into by separating its season into two distinctive halves. One main story typically comes to a close, with another main story emerging in its wake. It’s a smart pacing decision, as we’re often treated to a pseudo-season finale halfway through the season, bringing with it all the chaos and incredible plot decisions that would come with a typical finale. “Digestivo” rises to that occasion, while setting up a very interesting dynamic for the rest of the season.

NBC
Air date: Thursday, July 9th, 2015, 10pm

I should have known better that Hannibal wouldn’t be so easily caught. History repeats itself and all. “Dolce” is an episode that I’m hoping will play better in retrospect, but for me was just too much place setting for what will be the end of Hannibal season three’s first major arc. as we see Will (Hugh Dancy) and Jack (Laurence Fishburne) come close to achieving their goals, only to have them stripped away at the last moment.

When I was in high school, I used to go white water rafting down the Nantahala River in western North Carolina during the summer. There was this jumping rock towards the middle of the route that I always terrified to jump off of – it’s fairly high up, and you had to make sure you jumped out into the middle of the river or else you could hurt yourself. It was always a daunting process, until I actually leapt. It’s in that moment where you feel a variety of emotions – adrenaline, fear, excitement – it was always a mix of those things. There’s a boundlessness to a jump like that. It’s an area in which nothing, yet everything, is happening.

They don’t call it a leap of faith for nothing.

NBC's Hannibal cast photo

Summer’s about to get real gruesome when Season 3 of NBC’s Hannibal premieres.

Back in May, NBC renewed Bryan Fuller‘s psychological drama, which is based Thomas Harris’ literary villain Dr. Hannibal Lecter, for a third season. But, instead of having the new episodes premiere mid-season as with the television show’s previous seasons, the network is pushing Hannibal to the Summer.

Not much explanation was given for the Summer start except that NBC “loves Summer.”

Horns review header

Horns
Directed by Alexandre Aja
Written by Keith Bunin, Adapted from the novel by Joe Hill
Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Max Minghella, Juno Temple, Kelli Garner, Joe Anderson, James Remar, Kathleen Quinlan, David Morse, Heather Graham
Lions Gate
Rated R | 123 Minutes
Release Date: Oct 31, 2014 (Limited)

The title of the latest project by Alexandre Aja, Horns, would have you focus on a couple of appendages growing out of a young man’s head. As it turns out, that is the least of his problems. His physical setback is nothing compared to the mental and emotional toll he’ll take before his world (and reality) completely unravels. As circumstances change, our lead goes from being in a dark place to a literal and figurative descent into Hell.

When we come upon Ig Perrish (Daniel Radcliffe), life for him has begun to take a very intense turn. His beloved (by everyone) and loved girlfriend and soul mate, played as an ethereal forest nymph-next-door by Juno Temple, has been brutally murdered. Ig is implicated in this and is quickly judged by the entire community as the culprit (with no help from waitress/eyewitness Heather Graham). Now town pariah, he begins to settle into this half self-imposed exiled Limbo for lowlifes when…things…change.

Daniel Radcliffe Horns Header Image

About a year ago we saw the first image from a new movie titled Horns, in which Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe fittingly sported an impressive set of horns on his head. The movie is currently making the festival rounds in search of a distributor, and the first official clip from the movie has been released.

Horns is based on the novel of the same name from author and comic writer Joe Hill, telling the story of Ignatius Perrish (Radcliffe), the only suspect in the rape and murder of his girlfriend. Never charged, tried, or officially cleared, Ig is looked at through angry eyes from everyone around him, but he’s determined to find whoever is really responsible for the vicious crime and get revenge using the powers of his unexpected new horns.

You can see the first clip from Horns below.

Desolate wilderness. A dire situation. Liam Neeson. A pack of hungry wolves. Clearly, The Grey is no slapstick comedy.

The premise is simple: a group of oil workers in the great white North and the man who protects them from wolves as they work are involved in a horrific plane crash. Out of many, only eight of them survive. But the plane crash was just the start. Led by the man who normally protects them, a survivalist named Ottway (Neeson), the group of men try to figure out their best chance for survival while also having to fend off an angry pack of wolves whose den is nearby.

As each minute passes, the group loses more and more hope. But Neeson pushes them to keep fighting…even as he himself battles his own will to push on and survive.

Release Date: January 27, 2012

Unemotional deaths and the exaggerated ways in which death is executed are prodigious in the early months of the new year. Most films are determined to sink into an atmosphere that doesn’t demand any coherence or meaning to death. Audiences are forcibly taught to observe an uncountable number of deaths, each one determined to be more outrageous, blood-soaked, and meaningless as the next. Not only these early months but also throughout the entire year death is hardly handled appropriately. So when a director arrives with a film that is assuredly acquainted with dealing with death reverently, almost piously, it deserves our utmost attention.
